just wondered how many of you guys and gals here owned one because in most states you have to be ploice or military to have one. i'd love to have one just to keep around the house(not carry) but can't or am not supposed to purchase one....any suggestion's?

yes, get a Random Task from Kershaw!! my buddy's a Fed. LEO and his auto is no faster than my RT, and i'd wager not even as strong or solid..

Hi Shawn,

I'd go to www.bladeauction.com and start bidding! If you are really afraid about carrying an auto I would suggest checking out the "near auto" offerings for Camillius, Kershaw, and Blackie Collins.

Hi Again Shawn,

I would also check out the Emerson Commander. That thing is sweet!!!!!

When you pull it out of your pocket you can hook it on the edge and its blade will be open by the time you get your hand around it!

again i'm not police or military. would i still be able to purchase one at these auctions or anywhere else for that matter?

Many mail order retailers will sell autos to you no questions asked. They go on the premise that you are responsible for your own actions. Few actually require you to send them proof that you are qualified.

Shhhhhh! Spies are everytwhere!

Well, maybe not everywhere, but let's all watch what we say in a public forum, and not go about condoning reckless lawbreaking . . .

The "jungle telegraph" says the USA federal ban on interstate commerce is rather lightly enforced, if at all, concerning domestic autos. But don't be seen jaywalking with a switchblade in your pocket in any of the 31 states with their own dubious laws.

You can go to any gun and knife show in my area and buy all the switchblades you want and at discount prices no questions asked. Theres one at the metrolina fairgrounds in Charlotte, N. C. in february.

Shawn,

I answered this in a post of yours on the auto forum. Automatic knives are not illegal in SC. State law does not mention switchblades, gravity knives, etc. Feel free to buy all you want at the gun shows and flea markets. One thing about SC state law (the way I read it anyway) is that a LEO may decide that any concealed knife with a blade longer than 2" is a weapon, which can be grounds for arrest. Only knives with blades less than 2" are exempt from being considered concealed weapons. SC state CWP does not apply to knives, only legal handguns with max OAL of 12".

My brother carries an auto. He is just a regular college student in Missouri. He bought his at a martial arts store. They told him it was legal to have and buy but not to carry. They told him if he ever gets pulled over just set the knife on the dash and the cop cant do a thing since he is not carrying it. I dont really think the law enforcement here even cares though. My brother got taken in for questioning one night with the auto on him and the cops took all his possesions while he was in custody. The cops never said a word about the auto.

I own several Autos, mainly for collector purposes.I like the style of some of them so I buy one once in a while. I'm particularly fond on my Microtek Kestrel-A and my Benchmade Mel Pardue auto.I never use any of these in a work knife role but, I could with out any problems in Kansas for the most part. However if you are stoped by a Police person who fancies nice Autos you probably will loose it. At this point in time it probably would cause same amount of trouble if you stick someone with any thing,be it an auto knife, plain knife, kitchen knife, ice pick, nail, stick etc and so on. Judging from the large number of manufacturers offering autos it would seem that there are more auto knives available than there are police or military personel to purchase them.So that means to me that we should buy some and help these guys out.

From a utility point of view, I don't think you gain enough from an auto for it to be worth the trouble. I've never had a bale of hay run away as I pulled out my delica to clip the twine

If you just want one becasue there neat, than thats different. I just wouldn't plan on carrying it in public alot.
For self defense, Carry it only for self defense and always have another knife for utiltiy so you don't flash the auto around alot. And be ready to suffer the consequences if you evr get in trouble for having it
