Hi. I am flip flopping between an ESEE 4 and 6 right now. I have XL hands and heard that the 4 lacks tang\grip length, or is a bit short in hand. Otherwise I'm all over it. The 6 on the other hand looks right but the sheath seems to be a weaker set up than the fours. Dunno..... Any opinion from owners of both knives for a comparison would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, what are you using it for?

Personally, I prefer the 6, and the sheath kicks ass.

Same use for both, some small diameter wood splitting, feather sticks etc. I just don't want a stubby little grip in my hand. General purpose use, and the longer blade on the 6 would work better for battoning. I have more than enough zombie killers though. I'm looking for a bit more finess combined with reliability and toughness in a smaller package. The 4 would work if I knew that the grip was a decent size.

I carry the 4 in the bush on my person . The handle is smaller and different than the 6 but I still like it. It suits the blade it has. If the 4 had the 6's handle, I don't think that would be a good combo. Esee did it right from the start.
The 4 and 6 are pretty close in what can be done with them; the extra length and weight of the 6 gives advantage in chopping/batonning to me though I don't really do that much. I use a hatchet or axe and spare the knife. Give me that and a 4 for knife duty, a slip-joint or multi-tool and I'm set. The 6 I bring when it's one cutting tool only .Get both anyhow ; why not !!:D

I've got big hands too but I find the 4 quite comfortable and I like it overall better than my 6.

Nothing wrong with the sheath on the 6, it's quite durable so don't worry about it at all. It's actually a very practical sheath, but you'd have to see it first hand to totally understand.

hi, i've got both the 4 and the 6. if you have larger hands i think your going to like the 6 better, i have medium size hands either is comfortable for me but the 4 is a much smaller grip. here are a couple of pics,

as you can see the 6 is significantly larger.

now the sheaths are both strong and very well made. i personally prefer the injection molded plastic of the 6 i've been carrying it alot for the last year and a half or so and have nothing but praise for it. the kydex is also very well done. both are extremely versatile when combined with the molle back and pouches.

The 4 feels just right, not too big but not too small. I love the feel of the 6 also. I would say if you are carrying an ax or saw than go for the 4 and if the handles arnt enough get some tkc's handles, they make a world of difference.

Thanks guys. You were all very helpful and I appreciate the effort.

The 6 is the most normal feeling huge knife I own. The thing just works. it alos batons like -crazy-

I have both 4&6 and have somewhat large hands. The 4 is a little small for me but the 6 is a fine fit. The 4 blade length is fine in my opinion. The 6 is somewhat more useful for me.

It boils down to this. Adam like the 4. adam is a girl. if you're a girl, get a 4. If you're a man, get a 6. Simple.

What!? I come in here and am being slandered!

The 4 is a badass knife. Always been my favorite. But lately I'm having this knife-identity crisis. I'm all over the board. 3MIL, 4, 5, 6. Honestly it's like asking someone what they should buy 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2" drive ratchet and sockets. The answer is yes. :D

If you have sasquatch hands I'd get the 6. Great blade. :D

I'm affraid I wont be able to help. I also have XL hands and both the 4 and 6 work excellent for me. And the 6 sheath is plenty durable. Depends what you want to use it for. I've carried my 4 with me more than my 6, mostly on hikes. I carry the 6 on camping trips.

Either way you're good. I'd get a 6 and an Izula :)

I have both the -4 and the -6. For edc the -4 would be a good choice. For a Bug Out Bag or camping (my preference), the -6 would be good.

I say try out a -4. If the handles feel small, you may want to consider the excellent aftermarket handles provided by the Knife Connection.

You need to get both! :D Because sooner or later you'll probably need both!
The sheath retention for both is great (4:kydex 6:molded plastic) so no issues whatsoever!

I think the 4 handle is bit small, but what you could do is order a 4 with custom scales from Dale at the knife connection. It makes the 4 feel much better in the hand. I would go that route over the 6, personally.

Hey wolf watch it there pickin on Adam! I have a 5 so there! And i plan on a 4 and 6 also! And my name is Adam and i live in Buff!
