I just wondered if there was any more knive nuts like myself that has to buy 2 of every knife they buy. I have to have one to carry and use and one to put up to stay new. Am I by myself on this or am I just crazy? Gets very expensive.

I use to do this all the time in case I wanted to give one as a gift or sell it later.

I do this all the time. With my firearms, knives, boots most clothes, almost vehicles. At least 2 of everything, I just purchased a 2nd Wegner jr.

Does that mean there's something wrong with us??

I did it once with my Boker Specialist. I have one for everyday use, the second (with cocobolo handle) goes with my suit.

To Rosanghal: What do you do with the second set of clothes - do you just collect them? How big is your (ware)house?

I usually will get a second pair of clothes that I can train with, cause they usually end up frayed or torn, stained. The other set I use when out and about.

My collection of clothes is nothing compared to my wife's. She's got the bigger walk-in closet, the both guest rooms closests a downstairs closet and three portable closest in the basement filled up! Now I'm starting to find women's clothes in my closet.......um...that might start some rumors so forget what I just said. Then there is shoes. I'm fillipino and I knew Mrs. Marcos had a ton of shoes but my wife.....put's her collection to shame.

Now if I can just get her to be as obsessive with firearms and knives like she is with clothes and shoes.......I'd be one happy puppy!

Use to. Not too much these days. I' ll get 2 of the same if I know it will be a user/ keeper. But only after I' ve carried and used the first one. With a multitude of one handed openers available today and with the ever demand for something new/ different it is safe to say that duplicate models is a sound practice. New ones replace "old" ones and one may never be able to find that special older one again.

I sometimes buy a second knife as well if the first one proves to be an "essential" knife that I can't live without. Gotta get a life

Only with the good ones. I can't afford it yet, but someday there will be a second Sebenza sitting in my safe. There are a few others I want a second of as well.
For me it is not so much the "collector" issue as one of I like to have another in case this one breaks or gets stolen, lost etc....

Good topic, I'm a bit new here but I'll weigh in here. I tend to go with Scarman and others similar philosophy. It just makes good sense to get a 2nd for backup if its an item you really like and know you'll be using. Of course since I'm really a user as opposed to a collector that also means that I have to give my #2 a decent trial to make sure it too is up to grade. Which brings me to the next point. If I REALLY like an item, whether knife or gun then I REALLY want to keep one NIB as well. Three isn't really a major problem but then there's the predicament of perhaps having one to give away as a special present. You can't give away your #2 backup or the #3 backupbackup. You see where I'm going here. I'm just dang glad I'm not a 'collector'. <G>

no problems here,
life is great.

That is a habit I am trying to break. At least I never got into the “every version of the same knife” thing until now. You know, the 710/ 710S/ 710BT/ 710BTS syndrome.

I will have you know that each and every Sebenza I own is different and unique in its own way, thanks.

If I can afford to get two of the same knife, I'll order one from one place and order another from yet another place. That way, I can be assured that one of them will get to me. If and when the other one arrives, I can always (well, most of the time) sell one of the two.

post,

If I could afford it, I'll always buy multiple knives (not necessarily two). The way I've done it: buy one first, if I like it, I'll buy some more at other time. That way I don't have to always adapt to other knives. For example: got 6 Benchmade AFCKs, 4 Genesis Is, 2 Sebenzas (going 3), and so on. Of course I always have at least one of each to put up. So, you're not crazy

In order for me to order a duplicate the knife (or anything) must be:
1)a proven performer
2)not TOO expensive (ie. duplicate Range Rovers- I'd be happy with one

)
3)in some danger of loss/destruction/no longer being produced
4)gift giving
5)just plain cool

I have about 4 Woo's & 3 G-45's 3 or 4 of the
folding electrician's knives from the Navy & will probably order another Wegner & another REKAT Fang.
Sometimes more is more...

Yup! I'm also a multiple purchaser. One to use, and one to stash in crisp new condition.

Since I carry two knives at all times, I sometimes like to have the same model in both pockets. I have twin AFCK's, Natives and Enduras and soon (finger's crossed) a left handed Military and/or Starmate and possibly a Carnivour.
So I obviously love the idea of having two of the same knife.

Oh yeah, almost forgot! I have two Moran's also. Te old style with leather sheath and the new style with the highly versatile Concealex sheath, two CS Master Hunters and two SRKs, two Benchmade Panthers and well...thats all I can think of right now. Geez...
I need another hobby.

And that would make TWO hobbies, right?

I used to do this with everything, mostly with knives. Then I thought it over and stopped doing it because I scared myself. Since then I have found that I like having a diverse collection of knives more than multiples, even if one is less satisfactory compared to another.

As a teenager I carried matching balisongs, one in each back pocket. I had a MA instructor who emphasized using weapons in each hand at the time.

Well, that grew into a little bit of an obsession as an adult, and I wanted matched handmade custom knives. Jerry Hossom at www.hossom.com did it. By hand, he made me identically matched long fighters. I still can't believe he did it.

As far as guns go, I often have a pair too, but they're not always matched. For example, I'll carry a large 1911 style with a officer's.

Yeah, we're a bit odd, but it's a cool sort of odd
