I've heard some info that as long as you do not purchase them over state lines it is legal to own an auto in your home even if you're not LE, but I wanted some clarification. If this is true, does anyone know of any NY based online retailers I could legally order autos from? Thanks guys.

This has been covered mnay times for NY, but I am bored, so here it goes: they are illegal to sell, give, trade or in any way transfer to another person who is not a LEO. If the tooth fairly leaves one under your pillow, the only way to legally own it ( anywhere including your house!) is to have a current, active fishing/hunting or trapping license, and equipment like a fishing pole would be nice to possess too, to prove intent for use while fishing.....There are NY based retailers, but they are breaking the law by selling to you....

You got some good advice from tom19176. He is a retired LEO and a knife buff, so he knows the law. I would further suggest keeping the auto in a locked fishing tackle box while at home, to further prove that you intend to use it for fishing. Or, if you are a hunter, keep it in your locked gun cabinet or gun safe, to further prove that you are using it for hunting. Above all, make sure that it is locked up. Out of sight is out of mind!;)

What if the blade is less than 2 inches on the auto?
Does the restriction still apply?
