I have just bought (and waiting impatiently for it to arrive!!!) a plain edge MOD hornet with tactical black coated blade. Could anyone tell me how well this blade finish will stand up to use (it is going to be my EDC). Any comments or experiences on this knife would be greatly appreciated as well as any thoughts or experiences of MOD overall.
Thanks

I bought the MOD Caracara. It is one of my favorite knives. Fit and finish are perfect. There is nothing about this knife that I am not in love with. I would carry it everyday, but it is a little intimidating looking. I think you will be very happy. Regards, Allan

I used to have a Hornet and a Trident. The Hornet is probrably the best folder that MOD makes (Hence it's the only original still being made.) The hornet had a beadblast finish but the Trident had a boron carbide finish. I ended up scratching the blade. I called MOD and they did tell me that the boron carbide finish will scratch. It was no big deal to me. I ended up trading the knives off strictly because I prefer stonewashed or satin finishes. Nice knives but I found them to be a bit pricey.

I have MOD Mark II and it was my faivorite knife and EDC for several years. Blade did not scratch too much, but aluminium handle did. However I even like it better this way - look like old pal. Only thing they may improve edge thickness is bit big, however this is "tactical". Otherwise it is just perfect.

Thanks, Vassili.

I also have the MOD CQD MARK II. Its a great knife. I've had problems with it twice, both were due to blade play. The second time I contacted MOD about it Mike Janich himself took care of me and basically sent me a brand new knife saying that he has never seen my odd problem before. (Used my old blade and put it into new handles etc.) All in all Im happy with it, and their customer service is even better.

As far as the knife, the blade will get skuffed up if you cut rough things, but what knife doesnt? The handles are alum, so if you drop them on rocks etc, it will get skuffed as well. Either way, the knife is well built and should take anything you can throw at it. Just make sure to NOT I repeat NOT wirst flick the blade as the plunge lock is not meant for that type of abuse.

Hey, I also have a MOD CQD Mark II. I just got it last weekend. So far it's fantastic, I tested it out a bit today (nothing crazy hardcore) to see what it could handle. Cut 50 feet of rope of varying thicknesses, cut down several thick cardboard boxes. Then placed several pieces of the thick cardboard next to each other, to make super thick cardboard, and cut through that. No scratches on the blade, black finish is still perfect. My knife cut through everything perfectly, and I couldn't be happier with my Mark II. I'm thinking of ordering a Hornet next month.

I carried a MOD Tempest for years, used it hard. It still locks up like a bank vault, still looks good. It's built like a tank. When I transitioned to a pair of Yojimbos, I put the Tempest in my bug out bag because I know it's strong and reliable.

I have two Mod knives, the ATFK, and a 685 manual tanto. Both are well made, top quality tactical folders. Strong and dependable.

However my ATFK doesnt lock up as solid as I thought it would. The tanto locks up tight like a fixed blade, but their is a small amount of play with the ATFK. Both are plunge locks.

Anyone had similiar problems? how much wiggle room is too much?
