Yesterday we decided to take a drive into the mountains south of town where I've wanted to go since moving to Idaho, the Owyhee Mountains. There are some old silver mines up there and in fact, there is an old town, a semi-ghost town, named Silver City. We were hoping to make it all the way to the town, but due to the driving conditions and our late start, we stopped probably a couple miles from our destination, but it gives us an excuse to go back. (I would have felt better about driving the narrow snow covered mountain roads if I had chains on - note to self.............)

Here are a couple photos from the mountains with our dog. We've taken him to a couple of obediance classes sicne we got him from the shelter, and I've been working with him every day so it sinks in. He seems to be getting it and actually sat still for the photos! The first one is from yesterday morning in the field by our house.

I'm not sure if he had ever seen snow before, but he loved it. He went diving head first into the snow and spent a good part of the time up there with snow on his face.

The weather in the valley was in the mid forties, with rain / snow in the mountains to the north. When we got to the top of where we were going, it started snowing a bit, offering some intersting lighting contrasts. The photos don't do it justice. I loved the weathered rocks on the mountain. Some looked like "Jenga" stacks that could be just pushed over.

Here's some pictures of the Wauseon steel I had with me in the truck. I would have taken more photos with the other (Busse) knives, but my daughter was giving me a hard time enough as it was....(can you hear it .....Oh my gawd.....again?!).

I think the dog enjoyed himself. It was a bit cool, being in the mid twenties with a bit of a breeze, but there were lots of tracks and scents for him to chase.

I loved this shot. Just wish my camera could have picked up the contrasts a little better.

Enjoy:D

nice pics! they should get a couple of feet of snow tonight. that's the same area we do some of our four wheeling in.

Nice pics and a beauty dog! Thnx for sharing:thumbup:

Pictures like that make me miss snow. :( If only I could convince Dwayne the cold isn't that bad.

I have some friends that just moved to Utah from California. They were here in San Francisco last week sitting in the sun asking why the hell they moved to the snow country.

After living in Minnesota and skiing for several years about one day in the snow every two years is enough of a reminder.

But then you are talking to a guy that thinks the water in Hawaii is a little cool to just jump into:o .

Thanks guys! The dog is definitely a blue heeler, a.k.a, Australian Cattle Dog, a.k.a, Queensland Heeler. We got him from the local shelter around the beginning of September. I was looking for a heeler pup to replace my 11 year old heeler I had to put down last year and he just "happened" to be available when we were walking through Petsmart looking for a new kennel....they were having the annual "bring the dogs out of the shelter day" from several of the area shelters. He's been a pain in the arse, but we are slowly breaking him / conforming him to be a civilized dog. We think he's a little over a year old. Definitely has a lot of puppy left in him.

It IS a beautiful area, Scott, and there were a few folks out riding.....definitely has inspired me to want to get some four wheelers myself:D

Great pix! Never been there myself, but NOW i think that I might like to go...! Also, a good lookin' dog ya got there. Make me remember my dog long gone, her first experience with snow. :) Similar to how yours loved it. Dancin', diggin', runnin' around, snow on face... :)
Thanks for sharing!

BTW Nice Swam... errr, Wauseon Steel!! :D

Wow how could someone give up such a beautiful heeler!!!!

We thought the same thing when we first brought him home. He was timid, friendly, reserved, and never barked.....thought maybe he had been abused or somehting........then he got comfortable and started getting rowdy, became very stubborn, wouldn't listen, chewed a few things up, wouldn't answer when called, made lots of noise, jumped on people, became generally unruly..........kinda how Garth and Jerry are when they break open a bottle of Blue Label:D

By the way, Skunk's prediction came true and the mountains became all white overnight. It will not be above freezing here for the next couple days and should be in the mid teens for a low:eek:
