I know this is not uncommon. If you mix the lighting in the pictures to an average it is pretty accurate.
I just wanted to share what I felt needed an improvement on my Large C 2012 / 21 Sebenza. This knife was in great condition. But we all know what they look like after a year of use. They look gorgeous. But being that I am obviously a " Do-it your selfer" I decided to change the finish on the handle and clip.
The blade is stellar with the Stone wash finish that they offer.
Just want to share my method of Oxidizing and Hand rubbing.
1. Mixed 4 table spoons of Oxyclean with 20 OZ of water. Over kill maybe, did it any way.
2. Took the knife apart. Wiped the handles clean with alcohol and added a dot of nail polish to the lock face and detent just as a precaution.
3. Put the Slabs and clip into the solution for 10 minutes. This made the handles a dark gray, nothing like now, cleaning up light rub marks and exposing the darker ones.
4. Hand rubbed (maroon/red scotchbrite) the sides of the handles all the way around to clean up and smooth out bead blast finish to a satin rub look then a horizontal pattern back and forth evenly on the slabs (outside only) until the old finish was just about gone along with the "snail trails".
5. 15 minutes back into the solution. After you take them out his time they might have a rainbow type of look to them from the cleaner. One final light hand rub to even up the sides. Very very gently for a few minutes. Just the weight of the material really.
This is roughly what I did, the idea is that at the very end no matter how long you leave it in.
Your final step is the light hand rubbing , that is what makes everything uniform.
I have to say I love it. I know you have seen this before. But let me know your thoughts.
This makes my one and only EDC that much more personal since I choose not to make a scale for it. I dont want to mess with perfection.

Before-I use and carry my sebbie daily, it is a beastly gentleman like myself ;) But needed a little love to show what is really there.

After- :) Happy improvement with a more durable sleek finish

This looks great man. Uniform yes, but not too much to take away from the used look. I think you did a great job.

You can really tell the difference by looking at the insert where the clip sits. Me likey!

Thank you guys. Both of you. I really like the way she came out.
And mathewZ7, thanks for my favorite knife ever buddy. A good deal to for being in great condition.
I have been steadily impressed.

BTW , does any body know what the V stand for on the blade near the washer area? Ive noticed it but forgot to ask until now.

I believe the V near the pivot hole signifies S35VN but I'm not sure in that.

Great job man, I may have to do it to mine, it's getting well worn after just a few months (the CF side still looks perfect tho). I have to decide if I like that or a stone wash more (or blue ano, you can see why it's still stock lol).

Thank boys and girls.
Gump I got, but after playing with finishes so often and knowing the difference between useing the scotch v/s paper . That helps make it easier.

It is something that every one can try, that is why I gave some details.

I like it boss, a pretty simple process that achieved some really cool results. I think this look on the sebenza is much better

Great work!
Please do you have any pics just after the OXY?
What is the exactly role of the OXY? just a darkener that show to you WIP areas?
Thanks you for sharing, very classy with this satin finish.

Let me look, I might have one.
I should have taken a picture.
If I the knife apart it is still that dark on the inside of the handle. Since I did not touch that.
What is happening is a rapid etching process. How this happens on a scientific level I am not sure.

For now look at the second to last picture. Inside the milled area for the pocket clip, shows how dark it got.
Id say 95% as dark as pencil graphite. Just about exact to be honest.
Matt

I'm gonna try this OxyClean treatment as soon as I get off work today. Since I did a heavy stonewash on it, I'm curious as to how it's gonna turn out. I will post pics after I finish.
Your 21 looks really nice there Matt! I've done the ScotchBrite treatment before on a couple others, and I think it looks quite nice! My only issue was that it made the Ti so smooth at was kinda hard to grip at times. But that's just me. I've often wondered if I could get someone with good machining skills to mill in the "starburst" pattern found on the Starbenza, it would look really good on the 25. But it's something that would have to be done exactly perfect, or else it wouldn't look right. So, I'll just wait til CRK/WC releases one..

I think that you may have to stone wash it again to make it nice and even at the end.
But I am not sure.
As far as the pattern. I think I am going to add a cross hatch pattern on my buddys CNC this coming wednesday.
Then again I doubt it. I think I like it just the way it is unless I see a nice program.

While I prefer the look of a Sebenza with all the marks and patina that comes with time, the work you did looks very good.
