I most certainly understand buying knives, trading and selling them. However, lately I am seeing quite a number of Oz knives for sale. I am wondering, what is your take on why people are buying a $1000 or over knife like this in the first place, then selling them? The knife is certainly a beauty. If it were a rare collectors knife with fancy machining, I might understand. But the knife does not have superior performance to less expensive Hinderers, Medfords or CRKs. Why are people so attracted to these knives? My only thought is that people do not want to turn such an expensive knife into a user. I had a $900 AD20s in full smooth ti. Absolute grail knife for me. But I sold it as I did not want to turn a $900 knife into a user. Whereas I will easily turn my Emersons into users. Your thoughts?

The answer is that it is not a $1000 knife (table price). I won't speak to what it may be "worth."

Guys (or their "wives or girlfriends") are winning these in lotto drawings and selling them for 1.5x. They likely view it as free money.

Oz Machine Company Roosevelt’s start at $700 retail for a plain jane model. Imo a very steep price. Hype and lack of availability/toughness to land on a lotto gets a lot of folks to spend the secondary market prices on these knives which tend to start at $1,000. I’ve said it before, imo, it’s not worth the secondary rates for one. It’s barely worth it at retail.
But I landed one at retail from a lotto and I use the heck out of mine because it’s a knife that’s made to be used. Every single part on my my knife is now made in-house in USA and I take pride in that and I am willing to pay extra for that.

It’s a great knife, great design, and in my opinion it’s the perfect EDC. I use the knives I purchase no matter how expensive or fancy. I have no need for paperweights.

If you can afford to purchase and own these higher end knives there’s no reason to not use them as that’s what they’re made for. I use them with pride and joy knowing one day they will all be heirlooms and each knife will hold all the memories I made with them through the character in the wear on them.

There wouldn’t be a secondary market unless there was tremendous demand. The reason there is tremendous demand at what appears to be outrageous prices is due to the fact that so many knife enthusiasts get one in their hands and instantly understand how incredible this knife is in almost every aspect and are willing to pay $1,000-$1,400. If I could only pick 5 knives to keep for the rest of my life, a Rosie is making into that top 5 right next to my Rockstead Higo and CKR Zaan. It’s that good!!!

Wow, what a testimonial! I want one. Do Oz make a 3.5" blade? I cannot stand small knives.

They only make the Roosevelt right now. I’m not big on social media so I don’t know if they’re planning on more models. The best YouTube review so far is from a guy that I didn’t really care for because he can be pretty abrasive but he actually did a fantastic job reviewing the Oz Roosevelt.

It's only this 3in model currently. I don’t like small blades either but the beautiful thing about this knife and its design with that big belly on the blade is that the knife feels a lot bigger in your hand, even if you have large hands. Once you get your hands on it you immediately realize how well made it is and why it’s worth it.

Honestly when you consider that literally every single part on this knife from the hardware to the bearings are made in-house and how great this knife is you realize the price is way worth it.

I mean, the knife is named after Teddy Roosevelt, one badass American legend!

Jim Skelton’s review above is great and so is Dan’s write up of his knife on his website.

The Rosie is really, really good. The ergos are so good that i actually laughed out loud when I got mine and first held it. Whether it’s worth the secondary or even table price is totally subjective. But I can second John’s comment, this is a top 5 for me. If you think BF prices are high, I’m seeing consignment sellers asking 3x table or more for this! He’s making quite a few, as pointed out in the great video review mentioned above, prices will come back down to earth if you’re patient.

First time hearing about this topic. The t-shirts seem like an incredible deal, especially at the price of shirts today. Get one and a couple of stickers $4??? for the gym bag and be good to go.
