Does anyone know if I can safely fire 38 special +P ammo through a Taurus model 85? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

The Taurus model 85 is rated for +P, but I wouldn't shoot a lot of it. It will wear the gun a lot faster. The only problem is that standard velocity ammo may be hard to find. People seem to think that they are getting more when they buy +P. You don't really gain much with +P ammo in a 2" barrel except for more flash and noise. The exception is ammo loaded specially for 2" barrels. For practice, stick to standard velocity ammo.

I'd be asking an experienced gunsmith to look at your particular pistol and make sure that its all good and within tolerances. Plus they might know if the pistol can handle eating a lot of +P or if you want to limit your use to a minimum.

I don't understand why this is so difficult. You obviously have a computer. Why not just go to the Taurus web-site and see what they say about it? Here's the first thing you will see. Unless your revolver is really old, this should tell you all you need to know.

Just for the heck of it, I googled the question. The OP didn't say if his M85 is new or an older used gun. Even so, most of the thread go back to around 2007. If his revolver is newer than that, it should be rated for +P. If you are really paranoid, you might give Taurus a call.
