A recently picked up an early Small (P) marked Sebenza and sheath. I don't know what you would call this design? The colors are blue, purple and gold. There's not to many flying around or at least not out in the open. Does anyone have any real good information on the early (P) production models other then there right after the (H) marked hand made ones. I know that these (P) models are the very first CNC machine made ones. With thicker scales, a different thumb push (smooth on one side and grooved on the other) And a kick azz blade cut and polish finish. No belt clip. I also believe the blade steel to be ATS-34 is this correct or would it be BG-42? Any information would be helpful.

Jules

Can't answer any of your questions but did want to comment on what a beautiful knife you have there! I didn't know they made one without the clip. Nice!

There are others that may recall better than I -- info from my notes:

The large P Sebenzas came out in mid-1991. The first ones were serialized -- for instance, my very first Sebenza was a large, P184. I believe serialization stopped at around 300. From there, the Sebenzas were marked with simply "P", and some qty of knives later, CRK dropped the "P" all together. The small P Sebenzas were introduced in late 1993, and again, were introduced initially serialized. I haven't seen many of these serialized.

Mixed amongst both small and large P's, Chris selected very few, and started experimenting with decoration as time allowed. They had a near mirror polish on the blade, no clip, and at least the larges came in a wooden box. They are, IMHO, a huge piece of CRK history, being the canvas on which annodized, unique decoration was invented, full custom by Chris himself.

I think it would be great to use this thread to collect all P images and info. We could then piece together a more complete history than I have.

I've published these elsewhere, but just to put them all in the same place:

Jules, forgot to answer your question -- your P Sebenza almost certainly sports an ATS-34 blade. The switch to BG-42 didn't occur until October '96, just after CRK started producing the regular profile.

Thanks guys for all the Pos+ comments:thumbup: Fooj, those are just beautiful. The colors really "pop" out at you. I grabbed this small "P" model because I never had or held one. I usually just stay with the "bones" aka Ivory's, that I only collect. The blade on my small "P" model has some serious luster to it. The sebbie has some slight pocket and sheath scuffs. But nothing that the shop couldn't buff out. I was fortunate with the find, a real collectible.

Thanks for all the great information:thumbup:

Jules,

Any chance of showing some pics of those? I absolutely love Ivory & Ivory Bark handled folders.

Kind regards,

Jos
