LOL... well I know that he, allegedly, made my antique broad axe that my parents picked up many years ago when we were living in Vermont. Other than what I wrote in my post, that's about it. The axe is stamped with his name and CAST-STEEL on one side and what appears to be ROBERTS ??? VIENNA on the other side. I'd love to know more.

I'll try to put together some pictures tonight... I found the same link you did as well as an auction listing from 2008 for a very similar axe.

Death: 27 Dec 1873 Shellrock, Butler, Iowa
Marriage: 17 Aug 1830 Plainfield, Otsego, New York
Father: (poss) William SHERMAN

father of the Phineas L. Sherman born in Deerfield Township, Oneida County
in 1802 was HAZARD SHERMAN !!! I have been trying to determine the parentage
of said Phineas L. Sherman and his Brother or (Cousin) John Wilberforce
Sherman for years. Now back to the deed office in Utica and found that all
of Hazard's properties were in Oneida County..."
