"P" marked sebenza questions

I just received a "P" marked sebenza and it has some issues. :grumpy: I will be sending it to the spa for new washers and a good service, but read if I have the blade (polished ats-34) refinished it will get the new style stud. So my question is, if I remove the original stud can it be reused when I get the knife back?

Secondly, were the original washers on these "P" sebenzas metal or some sort of composite? This one came with a pinched washer and it seems like they are some sort of composite/plastic.

The studs are press fit so I would be surprised if you could remove or reinstall it yourself. The older knives did use a nylon washer.

^James knows his stuff. You are also correct in that if you have the blade refinished, they will replace the old style thumbstuds with new ones.

Removing it wont be problem, I have a full machine shop at my disposal. Just wondered if the studs are reusable - I thought I read about guys removing them when they sent them out for aftermarket heat treatment. I just wasn't sure if the old studs can be reused. If not, I won't have the blade touched.

If it is a P Sebenza (and I am sure it is if you say it is) gee that made since right... I would leave it alone the blade that is. The "lugs' or studs if you prefer are unique to these knives and the early "original" Sebenzas. They only have the groves on the part of the lug that comes in contact with your thumb. That is of course my personal opinion. I look at the older Knives much like a Firearms collector.. better left alone than re-finished. Of course again I'm a little strange. :D As you all know.

I agree, if this stud can't be saved- the blade won't be touched, as I really like this style of stud.

Just noticed you were from our neighbor to the North. So you are the one who got the Large "P" that was listed by one of your countrymen a couple of weeks ago on the other forum eh?:)

I am with Mr. Papa and his school of thought on your P Seb. It is too special to even take the risk of possibly damaging that unique and beautiful lug. That's a shame about the washer! I wish you could just keep it all original.

Please do us all a favor and post a BUNCH of pics of that bad boy--including the unique washers. I have never seen those before.

What he said.

I will gladly post pics, but it will need to be when I get it back - it is on its way to crk as we speak.

New washers, screws (as some were bunged up) lock adjusted, sharpening, and hopefully a lanyard pin. Nothing done to the handles or blade (as far as polishing goes). It's sad anything needed to be done, and I learned a lesson about buying used. Hopefully it's nice when done.

Sounds good--they will make it look and function as good as possible.

They will likely already do this, but request that they keep the original hardware (washers included) and return them to you. It may be beneficial if you ever decide to sell down the road.

Thanks for the tip, I did ask for the original screws back, but I guess I should ask for the washers aswell.
