I really like Emerson's P+SARK and hawkbill's in general, what I don't
care for is the thick grind on the blade. So I wanted to ask a question to Joel Pirela, would you consider making some changes to this model? I really liked what you did with the Commander model, very cool

Changes I would like to make would be, thinning the blade out for better cutting ability. Also make it fully serrated, and a black coating for the blade. Any other suggestions you might think of for increasing it's ability as a "weapon/light use knife for EDC" would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Troy

Troy:

I just thought I'd provide those forumites who are not familiar with the 'birth' of the PSARK some BF links:

Joel's Design

As a result of interest expressed by several Usual Suspects, both Joel Pirela and Bill Siegle became involved in the design and grinding of the original PSARK proto model using a 2000 SARK production model SFS. The proto became the property of Suspect Ed Moses for his collection. I am not exactly sure when EKI began their PSARK proto designing stages, but shortly thereafter, EKI began producing the now famous productions PSARKs.

Through good fortune, I was able to obtain the proto model from Ed (thanks again buddy).

I just wanted to give you a direct comparison of the Pirela/Siegle proto vs. my EDC 2001 production PSARK. Althought the handle , liner, stop pin configurations do not display any deviations from the norm, there is a major difference in the blade edge geometry. The main difference is an upper swedge ground into the P/S proto, which was done to eliminate the original blunt tip of the SARK. The angle of the secondary bevel has also been change to a less acute angle (< 30 degrees). This makes for a dramatically sharper tip as compared to the standard PSARK production models. Due to the newer grind angle, I find that the P/S proto has a much keener edge as well.

I must thank Ed Moses, Joel and Bill Siegle for the opportunity to own a piece of EKI history. I hope this long post has been of some assistance.

While I don't want to take credit for anything, I can add to the P-SARK saga. The first time I saw the original SARK I immediately got a brainstorm. I was doing Kerambit trainig with Steve Tarani. I found that the SARK style blade in reverse grip could do some very amazing things. It also worked well with many of the techniques Ernest is teaching. I immediately contacted Derek. I asked him to sharpen it all the way to the end and it would be the ideal police knife. As usual I got the "way ahead of you buddy" comment. I did come up with a total policy and adoption program for the Police Search and Rescue Knife for law enforcement agencies. It is a very unique program that is meeting with unbelievable acceptance by administrators, attorneys for government agencies, and the end users and training staffs. My agency is the first in the country to fully adopt the program. We will be taking delivery of 250 P-SARKs to be issued to every single officer in our department. Our use of force staff is also being trained by Mr. Emerson and his staff. It has really blossomed into an awesome thing. If any LEO's are interested, you can contact Derek Russell at Emerson Knives for details.

Darryl:

I certainly never intended to omit any important contributors of the original PSARK idea/designs. Your posts concerning your interest in the 'modified SARK' indeed are among the first posts on the subject. I just felt there were too many Suspect names to mention. I'm sure your contributions and foresight certainly played a key role in bringing a proto idea/design to fruition.

Your PD's adoption of the PSARK program is very intriguing and well overdue for all agencies. Thanks for the information. I will be contacting Derek regarding background information. :)
