Hello all- I just returned from my Florida trip, post- BladeShow. I picked up a P-SARK while down there and I'm wondering what everyones opinions are of one against the other. I think everyone's opinion about the Commander is well documented, but what about the P-SARK ??? I love the semi hook style blade, and the handle is similar to the SOCFK, Specwar, etc.. so it feels good in the hand as we all know. I've been carrying my P-SARK and I think it may be as good defensively as the Commander, specifically because of the blade shape, as I favor the reverse grip.
Anyway, it was great to see everyone down there, John, Liong, Kevin R., Sniper, Oliver, Derek, Steve, Princa, and anyone who I may have forgotten. Next time we have to get more of the NY metro area suspects down there, wew have alot just from around here !!!
I got a chance to handle the mini Commander, it's a sweet piece. Don't let the "mini" name fool you, this is still a handful !!!!
Let us know what you guy's think of the 2 knives, pro's and con's !!
Thanks, Donald.

I am carrying mine daily. It took a lot to get my Commander out of my pocket (ok, so I usually carry both), but I love the P-SARK. I am working out a weapon retention and response system for LE personnel, and I feel that for P.C. reasons, the P-SARK is the best choice of blade for the mission. I am working with a great guy from LAPD on this, and hopefully the results will be very positive. I have an article on the P-SARK coming out in POLICE magazine, and I was just commisioned to do another one for a big firearms publication that should be very interesting to the suspects. My take on the P-SARK is essentially that if you aren't in rescue or LE work, I would go with a Commander. Otherwise, the P-SARK is an outstanding tool.

Personally, I have handled both, and I still prefer the Commander over the P-SARK.

The Commander has a few plus points which the P-SARK doesn't.
The Commander's handle tapers off to a sharp point at the end, and I feel that this could be used as an impact weapon, similar to the end of a Cold Steel Tanto.
the P-SARK does have a nicer feeling at the ramp where the Wave® is, due to the fact that the handle flows with the curves of the blade.

Another advantage I feel the Commander has is that in a scenario which penetration is required, the Commander would outshine the P-SARK, that is my guess...

Both the Commander and the P-SARK can slash efficiently, however, the types of slashes the produce are slightly different, the Commander produces slashes which are extremely deep, however, personally I feel that in a defensive scenario, the slashes produced by a P-SARK could be more traumatizing as it sort of rips through the medium, whereas the Commander's recurve blade sort of parts the medium, if you want to see what I mean, take a wooden board, ar use both the P-SARK and the Commander to slash it, the Commander's would produce a shallower scratch mark on the wooden board as compared to the P-SARK's.

Nyeti,

Unable to e-mail you directly, so I had to get ahold of you here.

Who are you working with on LAPD? I also work there and would like to get in touch with someone else who appreciates my interest in the art of the blade.

Please e-mail me direct with the info.

Thanks in advance for replying.

A couple of things on design features. What makes the P-SARK desireable for the LE and Rescue folks, is its inability to "stab". In the current climate of Southern Calif.-stabbing some BG to death would not be pretty. The P-SARK is a very good defensive tool-perfect for the LE/Rescue role. Also for a majority of the cutting chores used in this enviornment, the P-SARK fits the bill. It is a matter of the right tool for the job. For a large majority, the Commander is the panacea, but for certain scenarios the P-SARK is the right tool.

I would use both! Carry the Commander on the right side front pocket, and carry the P-SARK in the left front pocket towards your centerline and use it in the reverse ice-pick grip.

I might be wrong, but isn't the P-SARK the pointy version of the blunted SARK, making it, need be, a very effective "penetrator"? I can see having trouble pushing the nose of the sark through things, but the p-sark seems to avoid those issues.

Just a casual observer though, and I might be wrong.

Nope - the P-SARK is pointy - I'm confused about this penetration issue myself...

The issue here is really PERCEPTION.
The P-SARK is CAPABLE of penetration but at close examination it really is'nt going to be PERCEIVED as a traditional Fighter Blade.

Although it can and does afford some excellent BACAL (Reverse Grip) Techniques and additionally 1's, 2's and 3/4's for cutting/slashing. There are some excellent Trapping and Hooking Techs that can be implemented w/ trmendous efficacy.

Upon cursory glances it does'nt appear as offensive as a VIPER or Commander or even CQC 6. It seems relatively rather docile looking in contrast. That is obviously not the case in the hands of a skilled practioner.

American People and Court System does still have this stigma for a "Sense of Fair Play".
The P-SARK I and others think fits this catagory. Perception is deceivingly powerful.
A knife's primary function used to cut seatbelts will be portrayed better as a DEFENSIVE Weapon than a VIPER 3 or COMMANDER.
These are all subject to each person's own intrepretation, but I think this is what most are thinking or at least where their mindset is at.

Hope that helps clarify.
