two days ago. Will get to try it out this week after I take it down to clean and lube properly. SS 5 1/2" bull barrel with the new mag release (European release was fine but no complaints, except for non-crossover MKII mags) mag disconnect (I could live without but it's there) and safety lock (I guess some people will appreciate it) I love these Ruger .22s'. Every one should have at least one IMHO:thumbup:
Oh yea, it comes with the picatinny style rail to locktite onto the receiver for scope mounting! no more after market clamp for scope mount, although I wont get rid of it either. Never know when you might need it again. I love new toys!!
PS: If you are looking into or have a Ruger MK series, check out Tactical Solutions...very nice upgrades if I may say so (and I've said a lot here:p )
Merry Christmas all

Here's hoping you like it still after taking it apart. I shot a mark II and thought it was a nice gun. Then a buddy of mine got a mark III and I ended up having to take it apart and clean it for him. You couldn't give me one:thumbdn:
All the lawyer crap they put on that gun just ruined it if you ask me. The mag disconnect makes takedown a pain in the ass, and the loaded chamber indicator is nothing but a trap for powder residue.

Forgot about the loaded chamber indicator. I do feel all of this is unnecessary if you just remember and follow basic gun safety. Take-down was that bad? I was going to grab a MKII when still available but didn't get around to it. I guess I'll see how things progress

cmon guys lets see some pics
a few years ago i almost got a slabside and now i sure wish i had

I guess that the take down procedure is something you could get used to, but it really was a PITA. The gun shoots pretty well, and they don't need cleaned that often so its not a huge deal. I guess my post sounds pretty bad, but if you search the internet the general consensus is that ruger dropped the ball with the mark III.
I just look at designs like that and get mad. We have the technology to make a centerfire pistol that will withstand a whole lot more pressure and can be taken down with no tools in 10 seconds or less (ever field stripped a beretta 92?) And then you have a little .22 that requires a rubber mallet, paper clip, and 4 pages of instructions. I bet some engineer is really proud:jerkit:

I guess this all sounds pretty bad and I'm not trying to get you down on your new gun. It will definitely be a good shooter. The mark III hunter actually got "rimfire pistol of the year" from the NRA last year. Maintenance just isn't any fun, but its a .22 so it doesn't need cleaned that often anyhow.

No really, I appreciate the comments. I have a MKII, so I have worked through the take down several times. I wanted to add the 5 1/2" bull barrel to the rotation. I made the paperclip tool and it stays in the gun cleaning kit along with a few other impliments that have proved useful... like a wood chop stick! Any one try the after market "upgrade" that replaces the locking pin to simplify take down? I dont remember who made it nor have I ever read a review of it.

Anybody that's ever put back together a Mark I knows that ease of stripping\reassembly has not been one of the Marks strengths.

A friend brought over a Mark I that was his grandfathers and said three others could not get it disassembled. I had not taken one down in years, but in a few minutes I had it opened and cleaned for him. It was manufactured in 1958. It shoots great now... I like Ruger's web site since you can look up manufacture dates by serial number.
