Well, basically had a good time with one major disappointment.
Lets start with the good news. I invited a friend and his brother for their first visit to the festival and they loved it. They are planning to make it a weekend long camping trip for next year. They both kicked my butt on points which means they are better/more accurate shooters than I am. I have not been able to shoot as much this year so that was no real surprise. It also helped them have an even better time.
The targets were solid on Friday and by mid afternoon on Saturday the trail maintance group started changing a bunch of the 3D targets on the three trails on the hill side. The stationary targets were plentiful and held up well down on the flat land. The pop-up, phnematic and "running" targets were again one of the major attractions.
I spent some good time talking with a knifemaker out of Dover, PA who does some outstanding work. He does some integral knives that have a serious heft with spot on fit and finish. He was very kind and knowledgable.
I also met a gent who decided to cut up some of his antlers, so I grabbed two chunks. I hope to emply one as part of a knife handle, and the other try to duplicate a dedicated top baring for a fire drill set.
So the major dissapointment was their fee structure. The way they have it set up is when you pay to get in ($5) you can get in with that tag the rest of the weekend. If you choose to shoot the same thing happens. So since my friends were only attending/shooting on Friday, they had to pay full price to get in and we could only be there from 10am to 2:30pm. This was because one of my friends kids had a football game that started right after dinner. I spoke to the person in charge, explained the situation, and we were given absolutely no assistance or discount. We even offered to return to the registration booth before leaving to turn in our tickets and wrist bands. Nothing. Very frustrating to me. We even offered to pay full price for the day and only get a refund if we return with our tags and wrist bands. Again, nothing.
So anyone interested in going for one day, go to their website and send them a comment requesting single day fees for each day. Maybe if enough folks write in they will make a change for next year.
