I have a Microtech utx 85 that I purchased 2 years ago as I started collecting knives. I believe the spring has broke as the switch has no more tention. I live in Pennsylvania and I believe it is legal to own an auto knife for just collecting. So would I be safe to send it to Microtech for repair or will they not send it back due to the pa state laws on knives ?

I am not an attorney, this is not legal advice. Federal law restricts interstate commerce of gravity knives and switchblades. That law may be repealed in the not-too-distant future. I don't know how your state statutes would effect your situation.

You may just need to reset the spring. If the blade moves freely, pull it out until it clicks in place. It should work then by button.

When I return autos, I go to a dealer and he charges $20+shipping to ship it back. That's the "for sure" way.

I know how to do that! This is a differ t problem. Spring Broke or something. What dealer would be best ? And I do have a bunch of state police friends that could send it in.

Bad news on the owning front; as far as I can tell, it is not legal to even own such a knife in that region.

§ 908. Prohibited offensive weapons.

(a) Offense defined. –A person commits a misdemeanor of the first degree if, except as authorized by law, he makes repairs, sells, or otherwise deals in, uses, or possesses any offensive weapon….

“Offensive weapons.” –Any[...] dagger, knife, razor or cutting instrument, the blade of which is exposed in an automatic way by switch, push-button, spring mechanism, or otherwise...”

The degree to which this may be enforced is unknown to me. I would contact the manufacturer before sending it out, and ask whether they would ship it back if you sent it in for service.
