I just received my Pacific, and saw the card that said not to sheath store. Realistically speaking, is this knife going to be at all bothered if it's sheath stored while clean? It arrived in the sheath after all. I checked the forums but didn't see anything on this topic for this knife.

I don’t know what’s in the leather, but if you leave a carbon steel in a leather sheath for a long period of time it will pit the steel. Ask me how I know, I don’t store any of my fixed blades in a sheath anymore whether it’s coated or not. Don’t know about a nylon sheath.

I think the fear (nylon or leather) is that being a porous material, environmental moisture/humidity could be absorbed by the sheath and eventually cause the knife to rust. So if you're 100% certain it will stay dry, like a gun safe with a dehumidifier or something, and/or willing to take the risk elsewhere, I'd say go for it.

This is helpful - thanks! It's definitely easier to store it in the sheath and attach it inside a gun safe, but i might just leave it loose in the box. Why take a chance. I don't have a dehumidifier in my gun safe. whoops!

Nice - that's a good looking blade. This is kind of what I figured for a higher end blade steel. If you live at the beach, then maybe you have to be more careful.

I seem to remember if the leather was vegetable tanned then it is less likely to cause rust on whatever it is holding. In any event I would not store a knife or firearm in a leather sheath/holster if not in use. They tend to hold moisture which will cause corrosion.
