I'm new to the BF community. I recently found an old copy of Jeff Imada's Balisong Manual from 1984. It speak of Pacific Cutlery and their trademark on the balisong name. I see references to PC knives on the forum.
Is PC still around? Have they changed names? It seems their knives are well regarded.

PC is now Benchmade in Oregon and welcome aboard!

Hello and a warm welcome!

A short explaination : (i hope i'm right here...)
1. Bali-song USA became...
2. Pacific Cutlery which became, in part...
2. Benchmade, which is the only part still "alive", and kickin' especially with the new model 42, which i don't have yet

I think if you use the search function you'll find more detailed information.

Or one of the x-tremely knowledgeable people will step in and either correct me or say that i was right

Whoa! Dawkind beat me to it!

Pacific Cutlery went bankrupt. Les DeAsis then took a job as, as I recall VP of Marketing or something like that, with another cutlery company, Benchmade. Benchmade was very much a going concern (though not making balisongs) when Mr. DeAsis joined. Les did bring the Bali-Song design and the product line to Benchmade. Eventually, Les did buy Benchmade.

So, in some respects, Benchmade is a continuation of PC, but in many respects it is a different company.

Thanks for the info. I suspected that there was a connection between PC and Bencmade. he obvious butterfly logo was the subtle tipoff.

Where can a person look for slightly more esoteric balisongs or butterfly knifes besides Benchmade?
