Pacific Salt PE or SE?

Hello,

I'm planning on purchasing a Spyderco Pacific Salt tonight but don't know wether to get PE or SE...
I'm planning on using this knife while I'm on my boat and kayak. For fishing, spear fishing, snorkeling and all that kind of stuff.
So I'd like to know what you guys would suggest; PE or SE?
And if you say SE, how easy is it to sharpen on a sharpmaker?

Thanks,
Zach

Yeah it's been awhile! I think the PE would work great! Like you said serrations are a pain to sharpen. Take care, and let me know if you get it!

In H1, I would go SE, just because I hear H1 serrated is a lot better than PE H1 in terms of edge retention.

I love my Pac salt PE. My thought was, "yeah the SE might cut better overall and for a bit longer, but it will eventually dull and it will be harder to sharpen than a PE".

PE!

I have the Pacific both a PE and SE, and for this model, I prefer PE. Not because H1 SE is particularly hard to sharpen on a Sharpmaker (it really isn't), but I like this model in PE better.

It isn't only H1, but SE virtually always holds an edge longer than PE, regardless of the steel type.

don't choose your blade configuration because of the hype around serrated h1. go serrated if you think it's more suited to what you'll do.

serrated lasts longuer thats true, but if you dont like the way it cuts, you'll regret it. h1 is a breeze to touchup in PE, not very complicated in SE with a sharpmaker or a set of profile but you'll need special tools in the field.

imho a serrated knife wont touch a fish except for gutting. if you filet at home and always check sharpness before going fishing SE can be a good choice.

That may be true that SE edges hold an edge longer than their PE counterparts, but SE H1 holds an edge longer than other steel's SE models where the H1 PE does not hold an edge longer than those same PE models. From my understanding it has to do with the fact that H1 is not heat-treated, and work hardens, so the more it is worked the harder it gets and the better the edge retention becomes. I am no expert, and don't quite understand it, but trying to relay what I have read from smarter people.

If you plan to use it as a safety knife, I'd go SE, I have an Atlantic Salt SE for scuba diving.
If you want fine cutting PE.
Either way it's a great knife, I love H1 for working around salt water.

I have had to resharpen my new PE Dragonfly H1 Salt, three times since I got it 4 days ago. The H1 steel sharpens easily and fast on the sharpmaker, which is good. I would consider the SE.

I don't cut rope, so I decided to go with a PE Salt 1. I decided to send it out for a FFG and it is my favorite summer EDC and general work knife. Yes, the PE is soft and will lose its edge quicker than others but it very easy to touch up and get very sharp.
