I need of some help. I'm trying to decide which knife to get with the ESEE pack. I have a RC 5 and like it. Likes for me are, weight of the blade, thickness, seems like it would do just about anything, and canvas micarta scales, only have one small dislike(not really a dislike but had to call it something) is the handle feels blocky in my hands. I don't have a ESEE 6 but this seems to be the favorite among most of you. A couple of questions on the 6, first with the thinner blade are the OA handle thicknesses the same between the two, do the liners make up the difference? Second, has anyone done a side by side comparison between them, does one excel or lack where the other shines? Again I do like the 5, but wanted to ask the collective there reasoning for liking the 6 so much. I have seen just about every review on youtube, but haven't found that side by side with the pros and cons of each. Like most of you, this is not the end all of the knife purchases just helping with the next one. I'll (like many of you) end up with just about all of them at some point. Thanks for the input.:D

well, not actually answering your questions, but if you get the pack kit with a-6, you will be able to use it with the -5 as well.
If you get the kit with a -5, you'll have 2 of them and still "need" an ESEE6.

I've held both , but not done a SxS performance comparison.
the 6 is supposed to be a better slicer, slightly better at batonning due to the extra length, etc...

I prefer the 6 for the Full flat grind versus the Saber grind on the 5 and I prefer the weight of the 6 over the 5 if I am packing one it would be the 6 .The 5 & 6 share the same scales just the 5 has Canvas micarta and the 6 has linen micarta scales,I swapped my scales from the 5 on to my 6 as I prefer the 6 knife and the 5 scales LOL

The folded kydex liner hold both the 5 or 6 and uses the bungee cord to hold knife in place,
I modified my pack to hold the ESEE6 w/o cord lock

Nice work on the sheath mod TTD!

I don’t have any experience with the 5, but for my “big knife” roles, the 6 works great for me.

If you really like the 5 and want a Pack Kit, you could always try the 6 in the kit and if you still prefer the 5, sell the 6 and keep the kit!

I haven't found a singlle thing that the 5 does better than the 6 in the woods.

Now in an urban enviroment, I would prefer the 5 for it's added prying ability.

That's about the only advantage I see to the 5, prying and stabbing strength.

and the pointy pommel window knocker outer :D reason the 5 resides in the Silverado

Word. I even think Jeff-ro said he would start keeping the 5 in his vehicle for smashing widows after he came up on that accident and the 3 didn’t get the job done. :D

Thanks for the info and photos TTD. Judging by these two photos it looks as though the 6 is a little thinner in the OA handle width, is this true or is it just the camera angle?

Thanks for the quick responses, keep the input coming. All great points so far.

Here's an idea, quit being a sissy and drop the order!

How about battoning the 5.. got a thicker back, should batton better than the 6.. come on, its my first love you are talking about (RC-5), there must be something good about it. There must be a good use of the extra weight of the 5.. like the stabbing strength you were talking.. i camp in bear territory after all

[received my Rat Pack with a 6P in it today.. yay]

thanks for pointing that out. i'm debating between the same two knives, and have neither right now. i live in the city, so this reminder on the specs helps me  As for the op, i suggest the 6 since you already have the rc-5. Time to diversify! Also you can then tell us from experience which you prefer to pack and carry

SWEET sheath mod! May i ask how you did it? pretty simple? I was never really a fan of the bungee holding in my life line....

remove folded kydex and replaced with factory sheath ... now dedicated to ESEE6 only.
So if you purchased Kit with 6 then you'll need to order factory sheath option or just have a buddy make you a kydex fitted to the 6 and mount in place.
