Pack Suggestion

Is there a pack like the Maxpedition Condor-II, about that size and construction, that not only has a bladder holder but also pouches for Nalgene bottles on the side?

I have a Devil Dog that I like pretty well, but it doesn't sit right. It leans way back and the Nalgene bottles sometimes fall out. Also, here in the AZ desert at least in the summer I need to carry my Camelbak Thermopak for extra water.

I would like to combine both and be able to carry a bladder and bottles in one pack.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Im looking for the same exact thing! Maxpedition sells separate nalgene holders that i think may be clipped on..Wish i could be of more help.

the tadgear fastpack both takes the hydration bladder and has the side pouches that will easily hold nalgene bottles.

it is pricey, but it is a fantastic pack. imo worth the money.

Thanks for the suggestions. The TADgear packs are expensive! They do look nice though. Getting a Maxpedition bag and Nalgene holders would be expensive too. I don't know what to do. I'll keep looking I guess.

I don't like or use "military" style packs. I went with an Osprey Atmos 50. This will hold two bladders and has pockets for Nalgene bottles. I've used mine on a few hikes and really like it. Very adaptable and I haven't come close to using it to it's full potential.

The ventilated back has been very comfortable for me.

Not cheap, though!

Use two of the medium, IIRC, Roly-Poly's... I've used 'em on different packs, including the Max Falcon II.... Either take 'em off if not needed, or roll 'em up!

i have about ten different packs of different sizes. from camelbaks to maxpeditions. not that they were a waste of money, but i sure did spend a bunch.

i still use my max pygmy falcon on occassion, but the tadgear pack is used almost daily. from carrying my gear to work to using it camping, it is the most versitile pack i own.

perhaps look at it this way, if you buy a quality pack, it should last a lifetime, so the price is spread out over many years. ;)

I was looking around on eBay, and I noticed that Maxpedition makes water bottle holders that attach to the outside of their packs.

Or of course, the Rollypollys would work too.

As I was out hiking today I think I decided to get a Camelbak Motherlode. It is about the size I was looking for (a little bigger) and durable. I decided that instead of a bladder and Nalgene I would get something I could stick 2 bladders into. I think I can stick two bladders into the Motherlode.

i have one of those too, it should easily take two bladders.

After I posted yesterday, I got to thinking that the Motherlode was probably too big. After my hike I went to an Army Navy store and tried them on. I think the reason I liked the Motherlode was because of the hip strap.

Looking on line Camelbak's web page says that the H.A.W.G. Max Gear can take two bladders so I'm thinking that something like the Talon would be able to take two as well. Does anyone have any experience with carrying the Talon?

I'm still thinking about the Condor but it seems like everything I read talks about what a tight squeeze it is to put one bladder in so I think two would not fit at all. There is no where in this area to try them out.

I really appreciate all the help and hope you continue to give it.

i have a camelbak hawg that is kitted up as a bugout bag, not sure if it is the same pack you are referring to.

if so, i think two bladders would be a tight fit, especially two of the large bladders.

camelbak also makes a bladder that attaches to pal ladders and is insulated. if you really like a particular pack but it is too small for two, consider a second mounted to the outside. this also has the advantage of quick removal should you not want to carry both. two bladders inside a full pack is very heavy.

Yesterday I went on a six mile hike. The temperature was not that hot but I still drank 3 liters of water. When I did the same hike when the temperature was in the high 90s I drank about 5 liters.

Here in AZ I generally don't have to worry about water weight. If it's too heavy at the beginning, it sure won't be at the end of the hike :p

I went to the army navy store again today and stuck all my stuff in a Talon bag. Of course it didn't' have any water in it but my stuff fit in their nicely and the bag wasn't too cumbersome. I'll probably get this bag. It's too bad I can't try out the Maxpedition stuff though.
