Packing Axes

Here I am once more stowing a load of axes packed in for work away from the old home base for a period of time. Having tried all the different transport modes, the most suitable n convenient for me is the truck. To avoid sharp blades getting damages, packing the axes in boxes and wrapping them, battening them down and all that, always turning into a big puzzle but mostly working out ok.

Some axes of course by their very natures pose, oh lets say, their own challenges in securing them down for those journeys to foreign countries.

I was hoping someone might pipe in with their own improvisations, just to spread the knowledge you know. Thanks for that Square_peg. Under the socked axe is one gloved with an unused, till now, glove. I even have one axe with an official protector, a snap strapped closure on there and all! While the kreuzaxt is in good shape itself I'm afraid of being a bit rusty. We will see if the opportunity arises.

I try to keep enough leather masks around to cover whatever I'm packing. But I don't have anything to cover my broad axe.

When shipping a sharp axe by mail I cover the bit first with blue painters tape (no residue) and then with heavy duty duct tape to safe the edge.

Protection is a part of traveling with your axes for sure and today I have been working with material at hand making masks to guard against the sharp edges coming into unwanted contact. This one for the bandhacke

or another version, just slip fitted held on by friction.

Even one with a live edge

and plenty of meat for getting a grip on.
I guess for securing during the ride, just like Keven, everyone will have their own solutions depending on what you got to work with.
