Packing Pills?

I have a question in regard to packing as much as possible into a small (say, Altoids-sized) urban survival kit. Is there any perfered way to pack a small supply of medical pills? Some over the counter pain killers come in foil packets that are more packaging than anything else. Perscription meds come in plastic containers that are mcuh too large. Packing them loose won't work. Am concerned about wrapping them in plastic food wrap - dosen't seem like it will protect for any legnth of time. Maybe sealing in candle wax? Foil wrap? Any ideas?

I have some in the blister packing.... just cut it down to fit better. The others are in a ziplock that was cut down by melting/cutting the bags to the exact size i wanted to save space.

I use a vacume sealer for just about any small stuff including pills.

If the pills are small I use small glass vials that I get from my father (retired chemist).

any pills that are carried with you would be better off carried in the original packaging, perscriptions in the original pill bottle also. especially if you are going out of the country. unpackaged pills could give you some legal problems if they arent clearly labeled and they are found by a police/ customs/etc. just a word to the wise.

Thanks all for the feedback. Just to be a bit clearer, what I really need are some ideas on how to re-pack/carry an emergency supply of some basic over-the-counter meds: pain killers, stomach stuff, etc. for a pocket sized mini kit. Glass or plastic bottles take up too much space, as do the single pills commercially packaged in foil. I always carry my perscription meds in the durgstore bottle and carry a copy of my perscription when traveling out of the country. thanks!

Hi maury,

FYI, some of the bottles you can get through the links I gave you will fit in a Sucrets or Tobacco tin. In fact, the one I use in the handle of my Chris Reeve Shadow IV is 2.7cm tall X 1.5 cm wide. It is very small....

You are face with a variety of problems.

1st you have to pack them very tightly without the use of cotton because cotton will reduce the effectiveness of the pills over long periods of time.

2nd If you take the tin out in the woods, you may become upset when you open up the tin to find that all your meds are soaked. I found that all my fishing hooks and tackle were rusted just from the damp condition.

Here what I recommend by meds the kind that are meant for travel they come in packs instead of bottles. Just take each pill and trim the the plastic casing. I found that by doing that it prevents the pills from interacting with the other meds. However if you have some meds that do not come in packs. Go by yourself some gel capulse at the local health food store and put the pills in them.
