Packing Water Purification Tablets?

Can anyone suggest a way to pack a few water purification tablets in a pocket kit? I would like to carry along 4-6 Potable Aqua pills, (or similar type) but have read that they need special sorts of packing because they can react chemically with other materials. I think this would rule out warping them in aluminum foil or plastic food wrap.

One possible solution I thought of would be to find a tiny glass vial, pit a few in an top it off with a small wad of cotton under the cap. Seems like this should work, but would hate to find out it didn't - when I need them!

So, any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!

Carry matches or a fkint and steel, then boil your water. Other than that, a pair of small vials with some auqu mira in them.

Doug Ritter at equipped.com had sort of little vials. They would hold 25 tablets according to his page on Repackaging Potable Aqua.

If that is to big, I do not know of any reliable method of holding those tablets for any length of time at all.

I agree with Robert H....Use matches or a bic & boil water!

I believe you are talking about a "servival tin" as in an Altoid or Tea tin.

I dont have space or need to carry h2o tabs in my tin. Its to small to make any h2o I purifies worth the efort...never mind the kindny probs.

I keep my h2o taps in my US canteen holder, with my cup and canteen. IF Im ever seperated from them and have to relie on my servival tin (thank GOD not my spelling) I would have to resort to boiling water in a birch cup or a fallen log.

Boiling is a good way to do it, that is if getting a fire going isn't going to be detrimental to your health. I'd suggest the small vials that Doug R. had available. They fit into an altoids tin with the other gear, have a cap that wont rot from the iodine and are dark glass so the sun doesn't affect the iodine. However, once the tablets are exposed to air, they start to degrade. That's why I carry the original sealed bottles of the tablets in my vest and in the sheath of my Becker. For multi day camping, hiking and hunting, I also carry a PUR Hiker in my butt pack.

Aqua Mira's shelf life is fairly short. Try the Katadyn tablets with a three year shelf life. Still short, but better than Aqua Mira and the Katadyn come self sealed for each tab. Fairly versatile that way.
