Good day, Gentlebeings.

Since there is so much buzz about these new Suga knives by the very talented kami Padam, I figured it needed it own review/reaction/impression thread:)

I've spent the day with my new beauty, and it's a keeper. Stout, balanced, graceful, fearsome, handy enough to press into general chores, but obviously designed to be a more than capable self defense weapon.

My phone takes forever to send pics to my email account, but I plan to have a couple of shots and some initial thoughts about the Suga posted up here in short order.

Stay tuned.
:D

The more I handle this knife, the more I love it. While it's a tad big for an EDC utility knife, it's a very handy size for something more in tune for defense. I'm not a classically trained knife fighter, but I have handled enough blades with martial use in mind to prefer a 6+" blade for that role. It simply suits my style better.

Everything about the Suga is balanced. It's neutral in the hand and hangs naturally in just about any grip. I made one of my quick and dirty 20 Minute Sheaths for it this morning. I couldn't decide if I wanted to make it a regular draw, a cross draw, or even a reverse grip draw. The Suga springs to the ready pretty naturally from any draw style.

I decided to just make it a standard strong side straight pull sheath. I thought about going a little more exotic, but I don't really have the leather or time to mess with something beyond the basic stuff. Riding in a sheath that puts the shoulder of the grip panel right on top of my belt displaces the knife to the point where I can't even tell I have it on my hip. Seriously, a 12oz blade feels no heavier on my right side as my average size smart phone feels on my left. Keeping it high and tight means that it conceals very well with nothing more than an over shirt thrown over it. When the sheath dries a little more, I'll take a pic:o

The aspect of the Suga that I love the most is that it FEELS like a larger knife due to it's substantial build. Here's a pic of it next to my wife's 12" AK made by Tirtha.

The AK is lighter and only slightly longer, but the Suga seems so much more compact like a coiled spring.

I'll have a few more thoughts on this incredible knife in the next few days. I'm going on a mini-road trip later in the week and the Suga is going to be riding on my belt to keep my .45 company;)

looks like you forced a patina on your wifes AK, or is that just light play?

My wife's AK has a villager finish and has cut up everything from wood to fruit to all manner of meat. It's an earned patina;)

Should be today Bawanna, got my eyes crossed for it to make it there safely, I am thinking mine should arrive tomorrow since I was a day later getting into the deal. I will NOT pace the hall to the front door every 3.5 minutes wondering if it is going to get here today... I will NOT pace the hallway... sorry just trying to convince myself...

The Eagle has landed and my oh my, it's really something. Steely described it very well. It looks like a big knife and it feels like a big knife but at the same time it doesn't feel big at all.
Not sure what I'm trying to say but it almost neutral. It feels awesome in hand. Padam must have used my hand to cut them finger grooves cause they fit my hand perfectly. The handle is substantial but it's not heavy and it feel amazing in hand.

Funny thing the mail man came and I got a big box of gun supply stuff, and I thought that's too big for a Suga knife? Then I saw the shipping address so I went and asked for another box, they said there weren't anymore. Deep depression sat in.

Then 15 minutes later the mailman came back, guess he missed the triangle box on the first trip so instant depression fix and all is right with the world.

Thank you very much Auntie for another incredible knife.

The knife looks great in Steely's sheath. A quick-draw design like that seems more functional than the standard sheath.

Here's the in-hand photo I previously posted in another thread (with oily blade); I think it belongs here.

The finger grooves seem to lock the knife in the hand, and function somewhat like a guard to keep the hand from sliding forward. I'm thinking I can still get a decent wrist-snap chop by moving my hand back on the grip, with index, middle, and ring fingers wrapped around the back two grooves plus the pommel.

Got my Padam Suga knife today.
Neat little knife. Not anything left to say that Steely hasn't, so i'll leave it at that.

I hope USPS didn't lose it. Auntie mailed it Thurs, I hope it's safe, so anxious, but now I have a meeting to attend, hope that the triangle box is on my front stoop, upon arriving home.

<Pout> as expected, I was a bit later to the party and mine did not arrive today. Looks like Steely, Karda, Bawanna and Steve have theres. Howard should also be getting his pretty soon too? That would be the last of Auntie's "Thank you Knives" that hasn't been noted as received. Those and the guys that got the first ones up as DotD should be arriving. So then hopefully tomorrow the mailman will have a triangle box for me :)

Glad your's got there Bawanna, I am not sure but guessing you need to have your tires rotated considering how many miles you must have put on them waiting.

Well the beauty of my situation is I spend about as much time backing up as I do going forward so the tire rotation thing generally isn't an issue. Plus both side having camber you don't gain much unless you take the tire off the rim and put it back on which might actually not be a bad idea.

I get tires with very little tread, easier on the thumbs so don't matter much. I did run the last set down so far I had 3 flats in one week just from running over stupid staples. Felt like I worked at a tire shop. They were paper thin.

Now with new treads I can focus on the important things in live like not cutting my juggler while I'm fondling cool khuks.

Well, I just received my "bird" knife, and OMG, it is just as Steely said, there just isn't much more to add that hasn't already been said.

The blade, handle, is just beautiful! Tha balance is incredible...it feels so "alive" in hand.

I did a few forms with it, and it just sings in both forward and reverse grip. I need another one! Having two and using two in a dagger forms set would be awesome!

Padam hit a home run with this one!

Hold up, hold up. The Padam knife is a Bird knife too, not just the Jurali? I'm trying to remember all this stuff but I think my memory banks are full. Keep getting messages to archive my memory but there's no space.
