Out to Plum Island again for another day of paddling. This time with someone else :)

Left around 1:00p.m. Late start, but hey, these are the longest days of the year!

Some grasses on one of the islands:

Can anyone identify this plant? It's growing in a very salty enviornment just above the tide line.

Egret!

We paddled silently up close to it. I do all kinds of boating, but kayaking is definitely the quietest.

Parked on a sandy beach as the sun was sinking low.

There's an air strip right on the island. This guy looked to be having a great evening in his float plane. Did a couple circles right over our heads.

Fishshooter very kindly sent me a Benchmade dive knife. Here are the first of what I hope to be many pictures of it out in the field. I lashed it to my PFD for the trip. Comes in an excellent kydex sheath.

Next time, I'll get a shot of me actually wearing it (will be lashed more professionally, too!) since you can't see how well it sits from that shot. I'm left handed, so easiest to pull of the right strap. And here it is:

I all around really love this knife. Designed very well and does just what it's supposed to do. Didn't do anything fancier than slice apples this trip, but it did so well.

We set off back home and finished up right at sunset around 8:20. One of the power boaters set off a cannon at sunset as we were a couple hundred yards from shore. Fantastic trip.

Got out fishing for stripers on the other side of the island a couple of times with a friend visiting from California. No luck either night though. Not many pictures, sorry. Everything was just drenched from the fog so I was happy to fish but didn't play with the camera much. In retrospect, I could've gotten some really cool shots. Next time. The Benchmade is made out of H1 steel which is supposed to be 100% corrosion proof. I hung it upside down off my fishing jacket (no picture yet!) and used it the whole night. Fishshooter put a razor edge on it that pops off knots cinched against tackle with no problem. Cut up the bait, opened packages, and everything else with it, too. One good blade for sure. Rinsed it off after cutting bait right in the salt water. No problem for the H1! Thanks again for the knife, man!

Good stuff buddy ! That plant is Grasswort or Sea asparagus as it's also known, it makes a great little salty snack to munch on raw or can be cooked which takes out some of the saltiness !!!

Awesome pics. Beautiful area there looks like you had a blast. I'd love to just kayak to an island for the night like that.

Awesome pics dude!! Glad you are digging the knife, I thought it would be perfect on a PFD. Nice paddling partner you got there too! Stay safe out there, hope to see many more posts this summer.

Thanks for the kind comments, guys. I hope to have my new homemade boat on the water soon. It's a replica scaled to fit me of one built in Igdlorssuit by natives.

pitdog & mick, thanks for the I.D. According to wikipedia Glasswort is a type of samphire, so it looks like you're both right. I'll have to taste it next time!
