Can somebody please tell me why my ZT 0560 BW has this screw on the frame lock? I don't understand because I figured all the 0560's had this but I just noticed recently that mine is the only one I can find a picture of that has this screw. Why does mine have it and most others do not?? I love this knife and it is an EDC user.

Any information or enlightenment for this newby would be mucho appreciated!! Thanks guys!!

It should be for the lock bar insert

So this is normal? Why don't I see any other ZT pictures with this feature??
It's relatively new. Is there a little metal L plate going over the inside edge of the lock and over the lock face? There should be, that's what the screw is there to hold.

That little metal plate serves two functions. Titanium sticks to steel. The titanium lockbar would occasionally get stuck and make it very difficult to open. I had a 0550 that was aweful for that. Second, the new powdered metal steels are very abrasion resistant and titanium is not. After repeated use the titanium lockbar can wear, causing blade wiggle, a loose lock, and even full travel of the lockbar across the gap in the frame. The first knife I can remember that used a lockbar instert is the spyderco titanium military.

Because it's a new change they made to the 0560. I think the 0550 is the only ti frame lock left without one.

Actually, the newest 0550's also have the lockbar insert. I sent my 0550BLK in for some lock rock and it came back with a new frame that did have the insert.

Well there you go. All titanium frame locks produced by Zt have lockbar inserts now.

I'm not sure about who used it first, but I think Rockstead used the steel insert sooner.

Possibly Lionsteel

I'm just happy to know that the knife is legit. I have another 0560 still new in the box that is not black wash. It does not have the frame lock insert but the lock operates incredibly smooth. Like butter! I wonder if I should be sending it in to ZT for the installation of a frame lock insert? For safety reasons.

I don't think that screw affects safety, that is more of a function of common sense. I have a 0560 from the very first US released run and it's fine with no screw. It's going to take you at least a decade to wear that Ti lock bar out before safety becomes an issue.

I agree with Rev. I also have a first US run 0560 and use it heavily. No issues of wear or lock rock. ABout 8 months ago I did carbidize the edge which adds additional reinforcement to prevent wear, and has an added side effect of eliminating lock-stick:-)

I personally would prefer the insert than without. I have the 0620s with the insert and they disengage with ease, no lock stick ever though there are weird scrape marks on both blades lock interfaces of them when new. Carbidizing is a option but it can wear off on some knives.

Earliest framelock I ever had with a insert was a 2001 Microtech Mini SOCOM (aluminum framelock handle with steel insert).

Generation 2s have a Steel Lockbar insert (that is the screw in the lock-bar).
There were some updates to machining/finishing and some new skeletonization as well.

Whats the exact weight of yours?

Thanks Divo, and everyone that answered. I feel much better now. I'm confident I didn't get the one oddball knife. I love the knife by the way. It aint no safe queen.

So glad they are incorporating the stainless steel lockbar inserts on older models as well, huge upgrade IMO.

Didn't read the reply's. But it's a stainless steel insert to help prevent sticky lockup and increase the life of the lock up.
