I recently renewed and about a week prior I received an email with a link stating both
when and how to do it.

Yes, got an email telling me when I would expire and how to renew & or how to upgrade the membership at the renewal.

It was around the 22 of January for me,
I noticed that it was 30 days after the “member since” date on my profile. (22 December)

OK, figured it out too - hover over the "arrow" for the drop down without clicking- I kept hovering and couldn't get it but moved to the arrow, by accident, and WALLA! I was wondering about this myself because I was actually gifted my membership by an awesome forum member here so I never knew until just now when I had to re-up.
