what purpose is this for? I've noticed this on some member's profiles.

1. support this forum
2. able to sell in "Exchange" area (trading is free)
3. various other smaller bennies like avatars and such.

To me, the paid membership is like a magazine subscription. Except that you don't have to deal with ads, overblown hype by knife-bribed writers, or bias towards advertisers.

Plus, the forum provides actual discussion between thousands of users, not just the sterile opinion of a few people. There's far, far more information available here than in a magazine.

Of course, non-paying members can get this for free, but I like to support a system that helps me. Plus, the knowledge that I've gained here has certainly saved me enough money in unwise purchases that the cost of the membership is of no consequence.

A paid membership also allows you to use the Private Message system, upload pictures, have an avatar and signature line, and (Gold and above) sell knives and gear here so you don't have to deal with ebay if you don't want.

And finally, you get access to the Pirates Cove forum, were we can post whatever we want, and talk about all the non-members behind their back. Arrrgh. :D

Cliff depending on the package, it may entitle you to list items for sale, to attach pictures, to use an avatar, to participate in the Pirate Cove (beware), and to do private messaging. But, more then anything else, it allows you to help to support these forums, so that we can all continue to enjoy the wealth of information that is available here.

Planterz and N2s, you both are so much more thoughtful and diplomatic than I! For me its mainly support for the forum, being able to sell if I want to, and uploading photos. Forgot about that one!

Join up -- it's cheap, really. Then you can become known as "The Cliff Who Supports the Forum." I'm not kidding.

I'm not nearly as active here as I used to be but I think that BF is worth supporting. I have learned much here over that last seven years and I have bought and traded and sold many, many knives.
