time to toss out the old belts!

shopbelts.jpg

Never easy....:(

And don't tell me I can recycle them....I don't want to hear it...I'll end up keeping them forever!

Boy I don't know some of them look pretty good. Are you sure you want to dump them? Could profile 1 or 2 more blades.
ED Fowler leaves them laying around to catch wild knives when he's buffing.

They're expendable ! don't form emotional attachments !...It looks like you could use much better lighting in your shop.

I took the pic after sundown....:p

Counted the belts as I was baggin 'em....87 belts. At around $5 ea...that's $400+....:(

Time to order a new batch of 3M 977 60 grit belts.... *ouch*

When I'm sure a belt is worn out, I rip in two to make it useless so I'll be forced to get rid of it.:grumpy: That little mental trick helps keep my shop space a little less cluttered. It's awful painful to rip that belt that might be able to profile just one more handle, though.:D :grumpy:

p.s. Todd - did you get my letter?

Dan

I haven't gotten anything in a long time. Did you ever do anything with that crane cable I sent you? I just recently got about 50 feet of 3/4" anti-twist crane cable, but it's a little too small to make blades out of, without making it into a bundle, first. I'm gonna weld some up for hardware after we get moved.

I'm moving a little closer to you ( central Ky is closer than south Fl, but not really close, I guess:rolleyes: ) at the end of this month. Send me a PM. I don't think my email here is current (by several months).

Todd

I see your man grinder but what do you use the delta for? I have that same sander and thats what I do all my profiling and stuff with. Just thought I'd break the tension of this pro makers thread and ask a new-b question. :D :barf:

Logan K.

the delta does all my sharpening (the 1" belt helps with recurves - which I do a lot of).

Nick - you speaka my language.....I definitely need to check out the new Blaze belts. Used any? Worth it? (better than 3m 977) I'm not married to the 977...and I do an awful lot of flat-grinding...

Todd - PM sent. oops...spoke too soon...you're setup to not accept PMs....

Pop (from Pop's Knives and Supplies) says the 3M 977 (orange belt) is designed to be run fast and needs a lot of pressure. There's a use for this.
I also like the 3M 967 (yellow) because it works better with hand pressure at slower speeds.
Look at those spent belts this way: one belt is cheaper than a 6-pack of beer;)

Golly, Daniel. I just tossed a whole mess of belts like that too. I feel your pain.

thats one heck of a pile of belts:eek: I think you should recycle them into some old belt micarta:D
