paint can forge

I'm working on putting togeathe a paint can forge and was wondering how the blade is placed in it. Do you score a groove in the botton for the blade? Laying it on its side just doesn't seem right. Or do you use some sort of stand and if that is what you do what could you use that wouldn't melt. Thanks for the pointers. Paul

A piece of fire brick with a notch in it does the trick.
