I almost have every thing collected, to make my version of a Don Fogg vertical forge. The question I have is this. If I choose to paint it, now seems to be the time to paint the 10" pipe the forge will be made from. What kinda High Temp paint should I use? Do I need a High temp primer as well or forgo priming
Thanks

I just painted my new forge with high temp engine block paint. Seems to be holding up pretty good so far. It comes in a bunch of different colors too....get it at any uto parts store.

I built a BBQ/Smoker out of 8" steel casing 10 years ago and painted it with high temp engine block paint and it is still good even though I use it a lot.

I used engine paint on mine, red and white stripes down the side. The roof is blue with white stars.Holding up pretty good.

I have read a few post's that some people are just coating the forge with olive/mineral oil and seasoning it like you would a cast iron frying pan. I plan on doing that on my next forge since engine/BBQ paint is going to burn and peel in many places after using it for a while.

Right now on my current forge I have coated the area around the opening with ITC and it is holding up good to the heat spill.
