Has anybody ever painted a knive handle ? I have a ontario bagwell bowie i removed the bass pins they just got in my way and sanded it down its supposadly laminated rosewood how do i go about painting it ? My thought was to finish sanding it down fill the pin holes prime it then paint it black then use some kind of sealer . Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

Unless it is dog ugly, try using some Old English wood touchup stain and then spray clear lacquer. You might find the rose wood is pretty. If you need to paint it, just sand smooth, then steel wool until really smooth, then mask off anything you don't want paint on, a use good (Krylon is my choice) spray paint. Several light coats work better than on heavy one which tends to cause runs.

Removing handle pins is akin to taking the lug nuts off your car.
The pins secure the handle.
Any paint that you put on the handle will wear off quickly. The laminated wood on your knife can be polished as smooth as glass. Just sand to at least 600 grit, and buff.

The pins are purely decoration on this knife brass nails they dont do anything there already off .

I have painted knife handles in the past. If you don't plan on using the knife, a paint finish might last a while, but if you intend to use the knife I don't recommend you use paint. It will chip and flake eventually.
