I had a B.F. member ask me to make him a matching pair of fighters from Matt Roberts forged W-2 blade blanks he was offering . Also using Don Hanson's Black Walnut Primo Blocks for the handle .
Here is what we came up with . The finger guard is ATS-34 s.s and the handle pin is 303 s.s .
I hope Matt is pleased with the outcome of his blades and of course I hope the customer is tickled more than pink with the finished items .

"I'll take both of them"

I am very pleased how this project turned out. I've been wanting a fighter, and when Matt Roberts offered up his blanks to help put a friend to work, it made sense to go ahead and build a set. I originally wanted to use a dark stabilized wood with lots of character (rivaled African Blackwood). I couldn't find anything I liked, until Don Hanson reposted his premo Missouri Walnut blocks for sale. I also noticed a few rising star makers grabbing up blocks for their upcoming Blade Show projects and test knives.

Jack ONeill was my first choice to take on this project. He holds true to traditional designs that are very practical, and his finish work is excellent. He puts his heart and soul into every knife he completes. We have worked on a few projects in the past, and I've gotten much more than a knife out of the deal.

The fighters will be off to Paul Long for the next installment. I think a contrast of black and brown leather inlay would look great. Due to the overall knife length, I want it to hang a bit low for easy removal. Other than that, I should probably keep my mouth shut and let Mr. Long do his thing.

Knives are now in the care of Mr. Paul Long. I believe we've come up with a practical sheath, with some contrasting colors. When they are finished after the blade show, I'll post some pics.

I would like to thank all for looking and taking the time for the nice comments . I would also like to thank Deano for the opportunity to finish Matts forged blades . It was a fun project . Well most of the time:D There are always those other moments

A couple of nice knives you have there. And I am sure Mr. Long will be able to produce something that will make the set even better.

I received the fighters and the sheaths (made by Paul Long) late last week, and finally got to see them a couple days ago. This collaboration effort from the various BF Makers, turned out better than I could have anticipated...nothing short of amazing.

I will of course take some pics of the knives/sheaths and post them in this thread, as well as the "fighter" thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=611014 when I have some time to spare. Thanks again to the makers involved (especially Jack), and what you've created.

I would really like to see the creations of the others that have purchased Matt Roberts' forged blanks.

Very nice sheaths , they look great with the knives . But you know Deano , sticking the knives in wood does not constitute blooding them .

sticking the knives in wood does not constitute blooding them .
I'll let the next owner take care of that, but it may be years before that happens.

I need to oil down the handles, because they look a bit dry. That will also darken them up a bit more...like in your pics. I really like the contrasting colors of the walnut, next to the sheath. The sheaths show a little too much reddish/yellow in the pics, than actual. It might be due to the bright sunlight.
