I was looking at the colour combo's and the LE spec and was trying to decide which one to get....I don't have any black paper grips...my KZ and SAR8 are both "black and tan" G10 so that was a bit of a disappointment...especially when the proto had black and tan...
although I suspect later once the surge dies down it might be possible to ask for a swapped set of grips from the custom shop...I don't know for sure...just a guess here....but maybe that could be done....
Allowing for it not being possible I then considered looking more to the combat grade options...
One option which immediately came to mind was pairing off my 3b2 with the green and black G10 option...
I figured I could use some of my black Krylon paint which I use to cammo my issue rifle to paint onto the blade a matching pattern to fit in with the 3B2...
and if I smoothed down the grips you would have a pretty well "matched pair" which for my uses work well.
The other option was to go for a sage and green linen micarta spec and match it with these two....
There is'nt a pic of the sage/black linen combo but this one is as close as I could get...
I have a lot of "black linen micarta" Busse's....the handle is probably my favourite colour/material...aside from the NMSFNO and the RMD above there is a FSH and a NMFBM and a FBM satin combat all in the same material.
The NMFBM has had a stripped and ghetto D/C look to it...nearly gone satin'ish from use...and the BWM would make a great lighter companion with the same treatment...
This option is very versatile for me...more so than the 3b2 cammo look as this is more "military" and at 46 I am now just about finished in this role...
With that in mind I quite like the idea of a ghetto satin finish on the orange G10....I have a UKPK in blaze orange and like the look and the practicality of the colour to assist in finding the knife if put down or dropped...
I don't know how it goes for you guys Stateside but over here in the UK if you were out with a 10 inch knife with a bright orange handle there is something about the colour which goes a long way to helping you give the impression that the "need" for carrying the knife...which we must be able to demonstrate by law over here...is one of a sensible camp knife or machete use...
The orange being so bright and so far removed from concerns of "military Rambo" abuse or even the "criminal use of knives" that I quite like the colour and image it portraits....very much a SAR/self justifying colour combo for us over here....and if you were out in the woods and the Police saw the knife stuck into a stump or a wood pile I am sure they would feel re-assured that no one with "imbalanced intent" would pick such a "safe" and "highly visible" colour for a knife of this size if they were a "few bricks short of a sensible load"....it sort of has that "civi professional use" cachet about it. Quite helpful really over here where the "Nanny State" issue has gone a bit too far...
There ya go....I've talked myself into getting a tanker grey/orange combo....I knew writing down my thoughts might help....
