Just need some input from my fellow knife collectors. What do you think of the Damascus knives that are made in Pakistan? I am an old poot collector on a fixed income and I like the pricing but not at the cost of it being pure junk. Thanks for your time.

I saw a video or 2 of them breaking at the tang with not much use.the fit and finish of the scales on the fixed blades are sometimes hit or miss. I would stay away from them, unless you are just going to hang them on the wall...

They are pure junk.

Save your money up and buy something you can be proud to own.

Wall hangers. They won't perform well, given what we've seen. A reputable knifemaker was sent one for testing and it was crudely finished, the hardness of the blade was a few points below what is considered normal or acceptable. The problem is that there is no reputation of quality, no verification that the materials used are what is advertised as being used. For the most part, Damascus is more a decorative aspect than a functional one. I would agree that you should consider saving your cash and buying something from a maker on the forums here. Lots of the folks on BF make high quality blades, and they are hanging their reputation on the products they sell. You are pretty much guaranteed to have what is advertised, and have recourse if things are not to your liking.

I've handled a few at gun and knife shows, and while I certainly couldn't judge the quality of the steel on the spot, it was almost as though the builders didn't give any thought to the fact that a knife has more to it than just a blade. Even in cases where the Damascus patterns were truly beautiful, the overall construction was terrible more often than not. I wouldn't have trusted any of them to withstand any legitimate cutting use.

Waste of money, in my experience and opinion.

Good Damascus knives aren't always as expensive as you might think. Spend some time looking at what the BF member knife makers have to offer.
