Sorry if this is the wrong place, as this is more of a craft than a knife. And sorry it is so long. Where can I find slabs of Paakuwood? Is it still not being made? Around 4"x20"x3/8" or around there or bigger. My girlfriend got me these awesome Pakkuwood spatulas and spoons for my birthday last year so I know these companies are getting it somewhere or making it themselves. I have made a spatula before, but my dog ate some of it as you can see in one of the photos. Anyway, I would like to make more spatulas and cheese knives out of Pakkuwood or something similar. I put two pictures of the knives they sell at Buccees. I am not opposed to using wood, but I really like the look of these spatulas. Part of it is hat I want to give them to people when I make them a kitchen knife, and part is that I want to make some for my sister as she is making charcouterie boards and has been selling a lot of them, so thought it would be fitting to sell them with a cheese knife. If you look at post #10246 in this thread https://bladeforums.com/threads/wha...bout-your-work.1115736/page-513#post-19732637 milkbabby shows a really beautiful cheese knife. I would like to recreate something similar. J. Keeton in this post asks about cheese knives, but he is making them out of metal. https://bladeforums.com/threads/anyone-ever-make-cheese-knives.1679303/#post-19204677 Hopefully he posts a video of their making if he decided to make them. I would prefer to make them out of wood or Pakkuwood, as heat treating a bunch of extra blades is cumbersome. Any thoughts? Enjoy the photos, some are of my dogs.

There are also some similar products called Dymalux and Spectraply. The Cousineau Wood Products website has some information. I think the Dymalux knife scales can be found cheaper through other vendors. I have not looked at the Spectraply much.

I would have concerns over food safety with a wood implement like that. Also strength may be an issue. Consider using Micarta, G-10, or Ultrex.

Thanks, I will look into that.

Thanks for the advice. I am worried about people not wanting to use "plastic" on their food. Especially for the spatulas. I thought about g-10 for the cheese knife, but seems like wood would be more appealing. I may make the cheese knives out of titanium and the spatulas and spoons out of Pakkuwood or from one of Hubert's suggestions.

I'd only be worried about food safety of i was planning on selling them to restaurants... I mean who doesn't have wooden spoons in their kitchen...

While many people have wooden spoons, I don't know a single home chef who has any experience who uses them. They do look good in a jar on the counter with the whisks and such.

Micarta and G-10 are not plastic.

If touching plastic is a worry you just about have to raise all your own food.

Dymondwood, Frogwood contain formaldehyde, so if that is a concern to you (or others), then you might consider the end products to be decorative only. Although sealing it might limit the exposure some.
Good, hard wax burnished in can help.
