Well, I found a store that had a couple in stock so I was able to complete my Pak collection. The first thing I did was take it out of the packaging and wrap the handel like everyone likes to do. Then the disapointment...They will not fit in the sheath with a paracord wrap. Such is life. I took the cord off put it in a drawer until I have time to make a sheath for it. For awhile I thought Buck understood the apeal of the knives without a handle. At the price they are charging they could have the market cornered, but they'll need to get it right. People want to mod the handles and carry cordage with them as a survival tool. I guess that's why ESEE Izula is so popular these days even though it cost four times as much.

I guess I'll play devils advocate. I love my Paklite just the way it is. :D I think Buck nailed it. It is a caping knife, and it works fantastic. Ever skin/cape out a critter and then try and clean that paracord? Its an absolute mess. Replacing the cord doesnt make sense to me everytime I use the knife either. I also wouldn't pay 4 times as much for a skeleton knife. ;)
I guess its a good thing theres so many different knife versions out there huh!!! :D

Dont fool yourself, paracord wrapped knives are just a way to save money. Here is what you can do, wrap your knife the way you want it, take a hair dryer or heat gun and heat up the plastic insert in the factory sheath, and fit the wrapped knife in the sheath. Now, wrap the sheath with cord and use that cord for your "survival" needs. BTW, I also own or have owned the ESSEE HEST and Izula and they offer nothing over a Buck Pak Lite except for a better sheath. Even better yet, with the $60 you saved on the Pak Lite over the Izula, get a kydex sheath made for $30 and your still money ahead. Survival is as much about making the right decisions under stress than the equipment you carry so start thinking outside the box.

Most of the folks on this site would love to have the tools I have to sharpen knives. When you own and use as many knives as I do they are a must.

I've wrapped all my other Pac knives from Buck, the caper is the only one that is an issue. I'd just like to have cordage wih me should I ever need it and a blade handle is a easy place to store more. I've been palying with a few other knives I bought and still haven't made it back to the pac caper. Maybe one of these days.

Buck did a great job with the Paklite. It's really a well thought out knife right down to the sheath with that insertThe way they did the grind on that blade is fantastic and so is the price.
