OK, i've had my 'el cheapo' Buck Paklite for about a week so haven't given it a thorough test - YET!

However, i was playing around with an idea and took special note of the hole in the handle at the 'choil'. I began wondering if it would accomodate my ferrocerium steel.

In fact as it turns out, not only does is accomodate my ferrocerium, but it serves very well as a striking surface!!!!! No damage to the edge and super easy to use.

For the price (~$15), i'm liking this little dickens more and more!!!

I'm surprised more Folks here don't rally in celebration of it, but then it's blade design is a good ways from most of most Buck designs. Also, being a fixed blade, maybe less of a 'usable' EDC for the contemporary Buck Customers (aka not a 110!!!).

I wish Buck did more in this particular genre of knives. They could really contribute and "push" the genre to higher standards and innovation - particularly in the area of value! To accomplish excellence at a good price is a Buck strength!

Its not an EDC for me either, but its still a great knife. I have both of the paklites, and use them when out in the woods or hunting. Its a great design for a skinner. The blade design is alot like the Ergo series of knives so I dont think its the blade design that is too far off. Its definately one of the best knives I have purchased especially for the money! Like you stated, its a great price point!!!

my 'el cheapo' Buck Paklite

Fmajor, I guess I'll take exception to the 'el cheapo' comment as it implies an inferior product. That knife is an excellent purpose built small skinner with the intent of being extremely compact and lite. The fact that Buck can do such a high quality little skinner at its price point is purely a bonus.

Ha ha!!! GOTCHA!!!!

Yea, 'el cheapo' is a measured, tongue-in-cheek poke at more expensive "custom" knives.

Posting it here is especially tongue-in-cheek 'cause everyone here knows Buck is quality AND a good price - with quality being the emphasis. Don't be so easily "take exception" offended - the perception of implication is borne of the one reading not by necessity as intended - this is all good humor!!!

A person intentions are not always clear to others and I'll come to Flatlanders defense here. I got the same impression as he did from your "el cheapo" label. I think the responsibility to make one's self clear, is BORNE of the one making the statement, not the one reading it. ;)

That being said, I also have both and although they will probably not ever be used for their intended purpose, they seem to be a great value for the money!

I've wanted one of those when I first saw one. Even ordered it twice only to have my order turned down because they were on backorder.

I've never seen those, but I'm liking it...

I couldn't believe it was only ~$15. For what you get, it's a no-brainer. :p

Aside, from the drop point being a little too drop-pointy, it's awesome. If i were a collector-type i'd snag a couple more just on principle.

In fact, i think they will make great gifts for a couple 'o my buds - "here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus lane...". Sing along - ya know ya want to!!

:D

Am I on your 2010 Christmas List? :D

That's a very cool "inexpensive" knife. I can't seem to find one
in stock most of the time though. When I do find one, I'm buying
it!!!

Hey Sonny - if you're OK w/Ebay there are about 25 listings for the knife right now.

Prices are from ~$16 all the way up to ~$27 (includes shipping). These auctions include both the old and new styles (new style has some 'grippy' stuff on the handle and part of the blade).

Join the Club! Membership is inexpensive , but not cheap!!!

Thanks fmajor007........I'm going to order one this afternoon. I think I'll
go for the coated one. I like the idea of not having the coating on the
blade itself, as that where it always wears off anyway.
Regards Sonny

 I really like the looks of the new ones, but I already have the originals. Who knows maybe I will "need" those as well! :D I really like the way they coated them too!

It was a little weird for me at first, but with my Buck diamond hone, I can get the 420HC pretty sharp ;) The ones I had a tougher time with were the Kalinga Pros with the S30V, that belly was a little tougher for me to get sharp.
