Last Monday the old grinder purchased 15 years ago by my husband,
Uncle Bill, died a quiet death in my shed. Nothing lasts forever, even
though I think it should.

Pala wanted a replacement ASAP so he could continue making his
beautiful handles for our knives. I went shopping and found a
buffing machine to make my father happy.

Now he's happy as can be working his magic in my shed, polishing
blades and working pieces of wood into handles. I can barely get him
to come inside for a bite to eat or to drink some water. After I ask him
3-4 times, he reluctantly comes inside to eat and cool off.

He will be here for another month before he returns to his home in Nepal.
During that month I know he will be busy making as many knife handles
as he can. You forumites will see the results of his work on the new
buffer for some time to come.

Auntie,

I've just finished sanding the side of the Walnut handle for Pala's Gelbu Special.
I should be able to post some pics later.

The handle became very lively on hand!

Looks like Pala's very occupied with making great handles.

Bravo Pala !

Looking forward to seeing Pala's craftsmanship on the new buffer and handles.

Yangdu?

How is his eye? Was surgery successful? Glasses required in future?

Please give him my best wishes.

Can't keep a good man down! Of course, it sounds like you're taking good care of him too.

Best wishes!

Hey Jay, think I'm gonna grab me a big bottle of tung oil, you wanna split it? That way we save money and we will have something to shine the new handles from Pala, which may be never cause we suck as sharks :)

Good deal, this is great news and I hope he stays brand new for a very long time.
He looks very happy sitting there in front of the buffer making those handles... he makes great ones too.
The one on my Mini Tarwar is outstanding and feels like silk in my hand, looks even nicer! :D

Way to go Pala!
New toys for old boys:p:D

If this isn't a coincidence...I've just got me new buffer too.
you should see what it did to my DC:thumbup:

Jay,

Thank you for the phone call and nice gifts for Kamis

And I am the happy new owner of a Pala handled AK :D

Thank you Yangdu!

Hey Guys, Yangdu snuck in a response to a recent request. Tirtha Kami's famous beer mug can be clearly see in one of the photos! I got a good look at it on my recently sharked WWII also, he says with a big smile. Pala's handle is beautiful. I don't know how he can set cross-legged like that. If I did that for more than about a minute, I'd have to push the I've-fallen-and-I-can't-get-up button thingy for help!

Dang jdk1, thanks for pointing that out and thank you Yangdu for the photo of his mark.
Been wanting this one for my catalog for a while now and I appreciate getting it finally.
I guess these peepers aren't as sharp as they once were... Thanks again!

Ok, I just have to say it. Somebody get that young man a pair of safety glasses!:p

And someone please post me a BIGGER picture of the Beer Mug Markings PLEASE! :)

This one will do for now but the picture was about the handle and really only gave me a glimpse of his mark.
I am pleased to finally see it though. :D

Warty, think the one on the M43 I just got may be Tirtha's (attached)

I am now getting shoes, safety glasses and gloves on for some not so quiet time on my wood pile:D

Thanks Oldschool but that one is Young Sher's mark, the Madal Drum.
I got them confused and called it a beer mug the first one I bought too.
Karda corrected me and posted some pretty good music to boot.

The Beer Mug, Tirtha, is upright with a foamy top under the initials in Devanagari.
