Aol press is doing to to me again. The pix is gone but so are the khukuris. Stay tuned for more village models and other goodies later today or tomorrow and thanks!

Uncle Bill
---------------------------------------------

Namaste everybody.

I have more khukuris in the air and I need storage space. Here are some good khukuris at good prices. Please take a look. I will guarantee all of them with our standard guarantee. We have had pretty good luck with these village models. Maybe one in 40 or 50 does not stand up but we can live with this percentage and have replaced any knife that did not do well, including one with a broken handle although we said we did not guarantee handles. In truth, we do.

top -- Another short sword -- 19 inches, blade just over 5/16 thick and 1 & 3/8 wide. Weight 1lb, 4 oz. Scrollwork but no brass inlay. Blade pretty well hardened. Finish good.
Pala's Special price $65

second from top -- A village Gelbu Special model -- excellent knife. 17 inches, blade about 5/16 thick at back, about 1.5 wide, and weight 14 oz. Very nicely hardened. Finish good. My personal favorite of this bunch.
Pala's special price $60

third from top -- Broad blade Chiruwa -- almost 16 inches in length, blade thickness 3/8, 2 & 1/4 inches wide, weight 1 lb, 8 oz. Good strong knife but finish is not as fine as top two.
Pala's special price $55

fourth from top --Interesting knife but one that I would not have personally bought-- I do not know where this came from. I think Gelbu bought it. It appears to be standard military issue and is marked "Gorkha Army" but not by us. Somebody in the shop stamped a serial number of 101 on this knife which they should not have done. Knife is 15.25 in length, blade thickness is almost 3/8 thick and 1.75 wide. Weight is 1 lb and 3 oz. Standard mil finish. In my opinion not the best quality and would not recommend this knife for heavy use. In heavy lateral stress the blade will probably bend.
Pala's special price -- $40

Bottom -- In Nepal this is called a "balance" khukuri. It is 13 inches in length, blade is about 5/16 thick, 1 and 3/8 wide and weighs only 11 oz. This is light and quick and very manuverable. Nice scroolwork and brass inlay. Personally, I like this little knife because it feels so good in the hand.
Pala's special price $65

Scabbards are very good quality for village knives. If I knew which sarkis made these scabbards I would hire them.

Call or email Bill Jwai if you want one of these above khukuris. I will pay the shipping costs, too.

Thank you for looking.

Namaste Pala,

I would be honored to purchase your favorite of this bunch.

Please reserve the Gelbu Special for me, unless someone else has reserved it via email.

This will be my first HI Khukuri. I am looking forward to purchasing more in the future.

Thank you for making these special offerings, which I can afford.

Pala,

Please reserve the short sword for me if no one else has snagged it via email.

Thank you very much.

Dave Fulton.

Let' see.

Dave you get the short sword.

Howard emailed and gets the village Gelbu Special.

Steven Dick of Tactical Knives gets the Broad Chiruwa.

Yvsa called and got the balance.

Anybody want the service number one marked Gorkha Army? It is the only one left.

Bob I'm terribly sorry you missed the village Gelbu special.

Uncle Bill

Uncle Bill and Pala,

Is this short sword considered a "Chainpuri" khukuri? I recall Uncle Bill saying in regards to another "short sword" that it wasn't heavy enough to be considered a "Sirupati".

It appears similar to the one Jim March bought recently, to my uneducated eye, but how similar are they really?

Thanks,

Dave.

Dave, it is pretty similar but a little shorter and I think maybe an ounce or two heavier. I can't remember offhand. Maybe Jim will jump in here and help us. The pure Chainpuri has the eye of the dove cho and a handle with large bell pommel. So, we could not correctly call this a Chainpuri -- but the blade sure looks like one!

As always, anyone is welcome to trade for another model if the once you receive is not exactly what you want. A picture is worth a thousand words but a knife in the hand is worth a thousand pix.

Mine appears just a hair "longer and skinnier" than the top piece above. Another thing I notice on all three with "open Chos": the blade height outwards from the Cho is "taller" than the blade height behind.

I must say, I don't like that. Not at all. For that *rare* instance where an opponent's edge might slide down my edge, I'd really rather have it hang up on my Cho than continue into my hand, and that "ramp" effect is liable to cause exactly that.

But it's fixable: with a bit of file work, you could take that area outwards from the Cho down so the height on each side of the Cho matches, like on my Skinnybeast.

For the price it's a heluva good deal...but I'm glad I caught mine when it rolled through.

Jim March

If Yvsa was tempted to dance naked when he got the other bigger one, you'd really better form some kydex around an athletic cup to send him with along with the "balance" khuk. Otherwise next time he dances at a Pow Wow he might come up with some fancy dancing that qualifies as a "Grand EXIT" ( as opposed to a "Grand Entrance" ) which if videotaped would continue to be shown and talked about at Pow Wows across the US and Canada well into the 22nd century. Hmmm... it might not hurt to pull the ambulance off the Rodeo events while he does his thing just in case. Yes, the Yvsa Bobbitt dance, that's what they'll name it for all posterity!!!

I would like then short sword. I will take any one that is left.

Bill,

I am disappointed. It seems life really is like a box of chocolates. Someone ate all of them before I opened the box.

Namaste!

If I'm correct that Jim March bought the khukuri from the "Shop 2 Short Sword" thread, then his is 2" longer and 2 oz heavier than the one I'm getting. That's fine with me, since it sounds as though Jim's a big guy and I'm anything but (legs like former Houston Oiler running back, Earl Cambell and chest & arms like Tweetie Bird).

Uncle Bill, I didn't see any chakma or karda's pictured with these khukuris and there was no mention of them either. Does that mean that these khukuris don't have any? I can live with it either way for that price. Also, since this is my first HI purchase I need to know what types of payment you accept and other relevant details to complete this sale.

I'm excited to get my first khukuri ... yeah another one about to loose their khukuri virginity!

Thank you.

Dave Fulton.

Bob,

Hint - I've had good luck telling Bill the type of blade I wanted and my price constraints. I suggest giving him an e-mail or a call. He's always found something special for me. Usually just what I needed, even if I didn't know it. On one memorable occasion a blade just showed up in the mail with no warning. I'm sure glad it was me and not my wife that met the postman that day.

Yvsa,

You were a little faster than me on the balance. I know how Bob feels. I'll be looking forward to your report on the handling characteristics of that knife. I'm pretty sure it will be light and nimble in the hand. I think chopping will be different. I imagine chopping with mostly wrist rotation. This might be a good tool for a sculptor who needs to make short controlled chops on wood.

Bottom -- In Nepal this is called a "balance" khukuri ... 13 inches in length ... about 5/16 thick, 1 and 3/8 wide and weighs only 11 oz ... light and quick and very manuverable. Nice scroolwork and brass inlay ... this little knife ... feels so good in the hand.

Yvsa, Congratulation for winning this "Balance" Khukuri! It has style!

Pala, I think of the HI version of this Khukuri (maybe slightly thicker say 7/16" & of course slightly heavier say 1lb), I think it will be a hit and insya-Allaah! I'll be the 1st person to order it!

BTW - why it is called as "Balance" Khukuri?
Does it means that it will be in balance condition if you position the sharp edge of the middle point of the length on your thumbnail?

Yvsa, please test it for us when you receive it! BUT ... please be very very carefull - I don't want you to lost your thumb!

Let' see.

For Dave -- First, every khukuri we send goes as a full rig -- scabbard, frog, karda and chakma unless otherwise specified. Total package.

For Jim -- your passion for the "fighter" shows through and is understandable. I have personally considered the possibility of trying to fend off a blade with the cho and that also gives me the shudders.

For Bob -- email me. I have a knife for you.

For Rusty -- I can see your sense of humor has not vanished.

For Howard -- your daughter's (Brita) khukuri is one I will not forget. To the best of my knowledge it is the only khukuri to have Manjushree engraved on the blade. I hope he imparts his wisdom to her.

For Mohd -- we always make our khukuris somewhat heavier than village models. And, you are correct about the "balance" of knife on thumbnail. Pala demonstrated this. This khukuri is called a "baraba" in Nepal which literally means "equal". It should balance at halfway point or close at least.

I'll be putting up a few more khukuris later today so stay tuned.

I know how Bob feels too Howard.I hae missed on a few myself.
I hadn't been on this forum to long when the little ugly villagers were offered. The ones almost everyone were going to poish out.(Like Rusty's)
I didn't want to let any of the regulars lose out so I didn't get one. It's okay, because the HIKV has biten me hard enough.I was moaning and groaning over the Royal Banspati Khukuri and my sweet, sweet wife said."Honey, you can have that if you want it." Barb knows a good deal when she sees it.

Jim and Dave sound almost like an old joke I used to pull on different family members.Of course they all "knew" my infamous temper and would gasp with unbelief.

I would in conversation or appearance, get them to ask."What's wrong Tom?" I would set them up with this.

"Me and my Boss Finally had it out today!!" Them."Oh my Gawd,What happened now??!!??"

Me."Mine was about this much longer than his." while holding up two fingers the appropriate amount.
wink.gif
hehehe. (don't make a lot of difference there or they won't believe you.

)

Dave welcome to the club! You won't be disapointed and will probably be surprised.I can still remember the day I got my....well... All of them.
smile.gif
hehehe.

Rusty,my little bro.You hung around with the skins just long enough, ainnit?

We NDN people are notorious for our teasing And our humor.
Besides that Rusty I will have you Know.I am a Prince among men!!

An inch more and I would have been a king.

An inch less I would have been a queen.

No Uncle, it's not gone ... it's just playing hide & seek.

Check out the "white scabbard" thread. That's where I saw it last ... of course that was almost a minute ago!

Dave.
