I read that this can reach rc78 with a proper ht. can this be true? What would be the drawbacks of edging a blade in this? (besides price, it is around 600$/oz)
Still, high end knives can go for thousands, and half an oz of this is more than enough to laminate the edge of a moderate sized blade. Imagine a straight razor frameback with a cm at the edge of the blade made of this. All you'd need would be 1cm^3, which is 12.3g, or ~250$. I you're gonna sell it for 2000$ because it has a super durable platinum-family alloy edge, then it would be pretty worth it, if pd950 at rc78 a. Exists, and b. isnt as brittle as glass

I would like to see the source for this info, I work with pd950 all the time and its fairly soft stuff. I am curious if its a different alloy than I work with.
Also good luck fusing it to a blade.

I believe that is probably in Rockwell A. The Vickers for palladium is around 400-500 when age hardened. That is about mid 70's Rockwell A . Rockwell C would be low to mid 20's.

There are some special treatments and Al/Pd alloy films that are super hardened by strain hardening, but that is in micron thicknesses.
