I took a panoramic picture of the shop the other night. Used a tripod and pieced the pictures together in Photoshop. Also took a picture of my new Power Hammer. It is a Ted Banning hammer that I picked up off my good friend Moon. The hammer is a 40lb head and hits very nicely. I worked on the dies a bit and need to fill the base back up with sand but have forged a bit on it without. It is floating on the floor right now not bolted down. Once I figure out for sure where I am going to put it I will probably bolt it down as it walks a bit now. It is a nice little hammer that I am pleased to have added to the shop. It should save on my shoulder a bit:)

Super cool, Burton! Interesting hammer, looks like a lot of daylight for one it's size. That could be nice.

Nice little hammer Bro' It was a fun project, for sure.

Thanks guys. I am excited to have a hammer in the shop for finesse work. With the press I can move the big steel (like Hanson's W2 rounds :) )
Salem it does have a big "throat" which is nice. I will try and get a video of it in action soon. It does hit pretty hard and fast for a smaller compact hammer.

That's a sweet compact little hammer. I love your shop anvil too. It looks to be pretty good sized. 400# Trenton?

I love shop photos!

Thanks guys. Brian I believe it to be around 400lbs I have never weighed it so don't know for sure. The guy I bought it off said it was 400lbs I am not real sure of the make the sides have been cut on and the name is not readable.

It has been recommended that I use adhesive caulk under the hammer instead of bolting it down. I think I will try that as it will save on me drilling the floor.

I'd love to see your hammer in action. How much do you think it weighs and how big of an air compressor does it need?

Thanks Don, I appreciate it. I wish it was a 100lb Little Giant :) Maybe someday.

Jason, I am not for sure on the weight but with the base filled with sand it is very stout. I only have a 33 gallon air compressor which is too small to keep up with it. It looses power before the steel cools. I took a video of it last night and will try and get it uploaded as soon as I can.

The shop is looking very good Burton! I'll have to make the trip down to see it some day :)

Added a video to the first post. This is a 1" 1080 bar. The hammer jumps around a bit but I have yet to fill the base with sand. Thanks to all for checking it out.

That's pretty good work for a table top hammer.

What about die change out and fine control? Single blow, soft and hard hits etc. I don't know how much hammer experience you have, but can you comment on these aspects?

Looks like fun! Thanks for adding the videos.

Hey Brian, the dies are held with 4 large allen headed bolts. They come off easily. I only have this one set for it now but could easily make more. It can hit single blows and somewhat soft blows as well. I am working on a video where I am actually forging a blade not just pounding :)
