ok...I have five ratchets en route... I will probably get at least one sheath from Mr. Brown...but I can't really afford five sheaths after buying five ratchets...any other blade guard ideas out there? I'm thinking just something that will guard the cutting edge when in a pack or my trunk...

It's amazing, the things you can come up with using duct tape and milk jug sections.

If you're handy at all with leather and rivets/snaps, I don't think it would be too terribly hard to fashion some basic head covers like those that come with GB axes. See pics. Basically just two pieces of leather--one that is folded and riveted, the other that serves as a strap. Instead of rivets on the larger piece, you could stitch the leather.

The GB covers are pretty minimal but function nicely.

Very true. For my chisels that get knocked around in my tool belt, I usually make a blade guard / quasi-sheath out of some thick-stock cardboard and duct tape.
