Got it today :D so first thing I went out and looked for something to chop....

How about some old,dried,hard-as-hell walnut?

The knife say's "pfffft too easy!"

After this I went after some live stuff that needed clearing~um,that actually seemed unfair to the poor bush! almost inch thick limbs became "un-limbed" with one wack! I gave up after a few of these and some other old dried wood,if I can say anything to someone who buys one of these think not of it as a knife but as a ax! :D

One last shot:

Also thank you to Mrs. Yangdu for the "little something" in the box

Congrats on the blade and thankyou for the pictures. I apreciate them in a review. :) How do you think the Farmers knife compares to a Khukuri of the same length?

Thanks for your impressions.

In the choice between ax or Khukuri there now is another contender: the Panuti!

wow! cut thru that large tree in the last photo in one swipe, more like a chain saw! :D

looks like a very useful tool.

I've used some khuks from windlass that were about the same size as the Panuti also various other designs and I find I like the straight edge more then any rounded or curved type, you also can chop better with the tip on a straight blade then a curvy one.
Granted a HI imports khuk is a monster compaired to the Windlass I'd still say I prefer the straight edge-wont stop me from getting a khuk from HI somedays! :D I just need to see which kind I'd really like.
I've noticed it seems to "bite" more then a curved blade,in fact bite may not be an apt term for what this thing does-"bury" is more like it!

One thing I do a lot that I found is hard with any kind of khuk is to flip it over to hammer stuff...trying that a few times was, well, interesting.

Krull thanks for the insite. After you get an HI Khukri I'd love to know what you think.... BTW After reading your posts, I want to get a farmers knife also. LOL!!

Day two,Panuti and me:

Too wet to mow and I'm going nuts cleaning the house so I went just a bit wild outside clearing most of the rest of that walnut and hacking through some vines/bush that needed to go-no pics it's the same old, same old-the Panuti has a habit of digging halfway thorugh one to one and a half inch stuff with a very light swing, going Conan sent branches soaring in all directions.

But I got a wild hair up my butt just before dark so I went looking for a small-ish tree or bushy like tree that we have out here and found an approx two and half thick leaning hunk of live wood that'd just fall over eventually since it's growing at an angle as-is.

How'd it do? let me put it this way,the straight edge cuts better for me then a curved edge,a plus is that the Panuti has a long enough handle to go "hand-and-a-half" which let's you work harder without getting tired, also swinging with two hands you can really get the blade going and the results are terrifying! I got half the blade into the tree without much effort,a full swing sent chunks flying!,now if a leg,arm or head get's in the way.......Zombies have much to fear of this blade :D

Tomorrow I'll go get some pics of said tree so you can see what it does,it also makes very clean, smooth cuts.

I like this one a lot :p

Hey Krull how goes it in Ritchie?? Great review!!

Goes well, some changes, other things going the same, having fun all the way around :D

Since inheriting the place I've got a whole lot of work to get it fixed up,but I'm enjoying myself.

Lot's of chances to use a big knife up here! :p

Here's a pic of that tree I went after:

I really, really like the black "forge finish" over the polished kind,it makes you want to use the knife-not hang it on the wall.

Yeah, that's why I am starting to think about buying Villager or the new black finish blades because I find it is so hard to overcome the guilt about messing up the beautiful mirror-like finish on full polish models.

Great review and pix, thank you

Welcome Snake Dr.
Yes it is a new product, only found here in the DOTD's.
Read the "Instructions for Ordering" in the stickies and be ready to pounce the next time one is listed.
