Does anyone have any info on this steel like how it compares to the current popular steels? Or just any info in general? Thanks.

Composition is very similar to VG-10 and N690, but I have no personal experience with this steel.

Does anybody have exact composition or at least who makes it?
I don't have it in the steel chart..

P.S. I found some info, added to chart - Panzer 36 steel. Very similar to N690, but strange thing in the spec is Vanadium 0.07-1.12. It's either 0.07-0.12 which is more likely, and then it's pretty much a variation of N690, or 0.70-1.12 and then it's quite different, given Vanadium's strong influence on alloy properties.

P.P.S - I've emailed the publisher, may be I'll get the answer.

Thanks! Fixed. Grouped with N690 steel, it's the same thing.
Strange thing is I run Panzer search on google for that site. (kmts), came back with no results...

nobody's perfect, even google ;)
btw: your steel chart is great, chapeau bas

;) Thanks. Had quite a bit help form folks here and other forums in hunting down compositions and steels.

Super :) Added new name and added you to the "hall of fame" in thanks and credits section.

I spoke to the importer of "panzer36" and it is not N690BO from Bohler. He supplies all the Bohler steel in South Africa.

The steel comes from Germany. It has been in prodution fro 20 years. The company produces it inhouse for making medical equipment. They don't want to deal with knife makers and he has managed to secure some on the condition that the producer remains anonymous.

Spoke to a knifemaker testing the steel. (master bladesmith and member of US guild) and his comments were positive. He discribed it as impressive but not in the league of top end powder steels that are popular in the US. Said it is difficult to compare to other steels without doing side by side tests. Video available on the site www.kmts.co.za and other info. He said it is very tough and can take a good bending.

I didn't add it as Bohler-Uddeholm steel. I added to the same steel group, listed maker as "unknown" and that's pretty much it for the chart.
It is identical by composition to N690. Much more close than bunch of other steels for the same standard.

I believe there are two types of n690, correct me if I'm wrong.

n690co and n690bo.

No, the later two are aliases. N690Bo is how Boker refers to N690. N690Co was also one of the knifemaker's names, forgot where did I find it though.

Bohler-Uddeholm themselves list only n690 - product list

@Gator

I know you're well versed on steels. What do you make of the info in that link? I couldn't watch the video because I'm using a iPhone.

SS, I'm versed on compositions and names, i.e. pure data. My metallurgical knowledge is severely lacking tho.
What video btw?

Did you see the link I posted with the info from the Panzer36 distributor? It's in there.
