I was going to use paper micarta for the handle of my first knife. It is used quite a bit here at work in 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick sheet. I would be using scraps that are lying around the lab.

Would the dust/fumes from cutting it using hand tools (hacksaw, files and sandpaper) still be dangerous? I would likely do the work outside. It is generally quite windy here in New Zealand.

Thanks in advance.

Phil, even outside a gust of wind could blow the dust in your face. Might as well be safe and wear a dust mask.

Just keep the wind to your back, and let the good times roll:D :D
If you think you are going to have trouble with the dust then you should wear a mask even outside. Some of us are not the smartest and never wear the masks(like me) and should..
