Hey all, I just ordered some 6" paper wheels, but before I mounted them on my bench grinder they got wet!  I've placed them under some heavy pans to try and get them to dry flat, but do I need to be concerned about them being unserviceable? They did swell some, am I screwed?

Some pics of the damage...

Thanks in advance for all your help!

let them dry then dress them up with a file while on the grinder. happened to me also and i spun them back into shape.

i would be careful and make sure they dont start to seperate. that looks like a different brand compared to what i use. since that is your grit wheel, i would be afraid of chunks of glue coming loose since the laminations have seperated. you can get a good 8" set from grizzly imports or stop in at any woodcraft store.

richard j, is it possible to re-glue it if it does separate? Also, what kind of store would carry paper wheels, I'm not familiar with any. One last thing, I have a 6" bench grinder, so I got 6" wheels, would 8" wheels have worked as well? Thanks again for the help!

if you have a 6" grinder you get an 8" set of wheels so your fingers can clear the housing. i posted 2 sources for the wheels above. you can go to the website and get a list of stores. go to sharpeningwheels.com for more info. i have a thread on the wheels you can read to find most of the answers you have already asked. you should spend some time reading through it. if a question has been asked, its probably been answered in that thread also.

if i were you, id get a new set. i wouldnt wanna risk something comming apart on me at 3500rpm!

that probably would be a smart idea since the fibers are weakened. i bought a cheap set of wheels and i wish i never bought them. the few dollars saved could have bought a better set.

if anything happens to mikes wheels that is not your fault, i do believe he will replace them. i had one of my first ones finally start to show signs of seperation in spots but nothing dangerous. he replaced it with another one.
