Hi, I had a (Staples) Identity Guard Shredder Model SH1524CP for several years that stopped shredding and would appreciate any help / suggestions / advice /..... that you can offer. As I mentioned, the shredding function does not work (nothing happens when I place a piece of paper in the shredder but what does work just fine is the REVERSE button, when I press reverse I hear the motor and the shredder reverses (paper that is stuck / caught is able to be retrieved) but when I try to shred something NOTHING happens (no motor, no movement).
Thanks guys,
Bob

Check the safety interlock between the collection container and the head of the shedder. See if anything else has built up or jammed, and blow it out with the aircompressor

I had a shedder for about 10 years. it just started to go in overload when I just turn it on and put a page in it. I went out and bought another one to replace it. how long have you had it?? maybe yours is burned out too. I have sales invoices that I am getting rid of but they have people credit card info on them. I can't just put them in the trash. I refuse to do that so that is why I got another one.

Thank you for your help guys.
Bufford, I've had the shredder for maybe 4 years and don't use it that often (I need to empty the bin about every month) and understand taht purchasing a new shredder is an option but I thought that I would try and see if their is anything that I could do, before I buy a new one.

And Bufford, I tried you suggestion to check the "safety interlock between the collection container and the head of the shedder " and ran into a problem. I disassemble, the unit that is I tried to open the "head" of the shredder and removed 6 screws on the bottom of the shredder head (i.e. the part that you can not see when the shredder head is placed over the paper collection bin) so that I could open the shredder head and get a peek inside but the bottom part doesn't separate from the top and I don't want to force it (and possibly break/crack the plastic).
BTW, apparently Techko Inc makes the shredder for Staples and the Model number of the unit is SH1524CP.
In any event, I would appreciate a little more help since the shredder head and collection bin appear to be lined up properly, the unit has an amble indicator light that lights up when it's not aligned and a green indicator light when it is aligned properly.
I tried removing any loose paper that I a, able see with an eye tweezer but obviously can do a better job of cleaning it out if I was able to dissemble (take the bottom part off the shredder head) and any help would be appreciated.

Thank you again for your help guys

Bob

My shredder went kaput a month ago and it appears to be the activator switch(the spring mechanism that is tripped when the paper is inserted), as the spring is no longer under tension. I have not had a chance to attempt a repair, but if I can get it apart, it should be fixable.

Anyway, have you checked this switch?

Hi Brizbane, the switch on my unit doesn't feel right either but I need to open the shredder I can check it (look at it) and the 2 plastic components of the shredder head don't want to pull apart and I'm afraid to use brute force or a wedge to try and open it.
Thanks, Bob

boblink, gotcha. I may end up with the same problem but I am hoping that it will just unscrew.

Assuming that the green light indicates a properly set up shredder and every thing else looks okay, then the switch you suspect might be the problem. Its hard to tell without actually seeing and handling it.

the green light indicates a properly set up shredder
Yup, that's wahts' happening, the green indicator light is ON for both ON/AUTO and REVERSE but only reverse is working

If reverse works just use it upside down?
Not a bad idea since I rarely use reverse but the problem is, how do I get to the switch? I have used "brute force" and am unable to get the top and bottom (plastic) parts of the shredder head separated; the only thing that I have accomplished was to cut my finger. Believe me I’ve tried, I used a chisel and crowbar but it appears that something (another screw) is holding them together and I looked all over and can’t find another screw.

Did you try to Search on Amazon or Ebay? May be you can find better one in cheaper price. Read the Reviews that will help you decide also.
